It will be a fight to the finish, go down to the wire. Something new to the conference this year is doubleheaders on Friday, so that means unless you have an abundant amount of pitching, it will be more of a hitters league. We can play with that.

Shelly is one of the top three outside hitters in the conference and is one of the premiere hitters in the country. She is going to have a tremendous amount of offensive responsibility this year.

We are 0-4 in league right now and are beginning to put our backs against a wall in terms of playoff position. It is very important for us to go out and perform well and work hard to get a victory versus Monroe on Friday. We have a goal of getting a home play game. That means we will have to finish third or higher. So we have some work to do, but I have total confidence that we will be there at the end of the year.

Pitching is such a big key because pitching is so much of the game. Overall, we have seven starters back from last year and I think that experience puts in a position to challenge (for a top finish in the conference).

If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

Having to come in as a freshman and take on most of the pitching responsibility, especially when we play doubleheaders, it put a lot of strain on her.

It always comes down to pitching and defense. If we keep pitching well (3.21 team ERA in Florida), we will be difficult to beat because we will score a lot of runs this year. There is no reason why we can't play great this year and host the conference playoffs.

Give Westbrook credit. Those kids play hard. They don't quit. They did the same thing to us at our place when they got us. They play tough wire-to-wire. They could have rolled over. Teams are well-coached in this conference and they all play hard every night. And if you don't play hard for 32 minutes you're not going to get a W.

I said that there could be eight teams vie for the championship. I think scheduling (the Big Ten doesn't play a round robin, so some teams play others just once) is gonna play a part in everything. I still think our conference could fight to be the strongest in the country. When you look top to bottom at the conference race this year, four losses could win it, maybe more.

I think it means, No. 1, they are a very big conference; I think more importantly it means they have a very good conference. And I think what we saw in terms of the Big East this year, it created some very, very unusual challenges for us as we looked at this era of imbalance in conference scheduling.

What it means is that you can't simply trust conference records to be a method of evaluating teams in the same conference. Everybody in that league will get a chance to play some good teams at some point, but not all 8-8's are the same. Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance. It's huge. We're both among the best teams in the league. I think we're equally talented. We both have great hitters; we both have great pitching and great defense. It's just a matter a who comes out to play. We showed up ready to play.

Craig's legacy is yet to be determined. Last year we won a conference championship. This year our goal is to win a conference championship and get to play against Racine St. Catherine's in a sectional final. How he is remembered will be determined by how we finish the season.

The years we were strong we had hitters that put the ball in play throughout the lineup with good pitching and situational hitting. I always look for how we are defensively and pitching. They'll be solid.

It's a very tough league and the way our teams have played all year and now with everyone beating each other in conference play it will only stay that way. This league has shown its mettle over the long haul.
