Most of our current membership is Caucasian residents of affluent areas and we feel we're under-represented in other areas. With the growth in Jasper County it's a logical extension.

I think, overall, Montgomery County was well prepared. The plans we put in place really did what we wanted them to do. Now, we'll just go back and work on the areas we need to improve on.

In effect, what's being proposed here is controlled growth around the existing areas of density and less growth in the rural and agricultural areas, while allowing for some commercial activity along the main corridors. This is to prevent sprawl, where growth happens wherever. The county actually had some very positive comments about the ordinance. They said it was cutting edge.

I didn't feel as if they always had me [as] part of their plans. It was like I was back on the back burner, ... It was almost like I always had to show them what I could do, or what I was capable of doing. It was like I had prove myself every day, every day. I wanted to go somewhere where I was wanted, and I feel as though I was wanted here.

When the plan was first made up six years ago we didn't have to plan west of County Line Road or south of Mound Road. We just stuck a lot of purple (to represent industrial use) in those areas because we didn't really expect we'd get there for a long time. But as it turns out, we're there now.

Since 9/11, as a nation, our preparedness has increased dramatically. We need to ensure that in major metropolitan areas, preparedness is an all-hazards preparedness. So we're going to have a look at these individual plans to ensure they reflect that.

The work that these subcommittees have done is not being disregarded. Just because visioning subcommittee members were not (selected) does not mean the subcommittees are getting ignored.

There's a district policy that requires teachers to ensure that for all topics, particularly controversial topics, both sides are presented, ... There's not an advocacy role to be played by the teachers in an instructional program.

While we have been comforted by the actions of the great majority of federal agencies, unfortunately with just 63 days remaining before the Jan. 1, 2000, deadline, there still remains some concern about certain agencies - especially with regard to their contingency and Day One plans, ... We have been doing our best as a county to try to keep up with growth. We have not had an opportunity to get ahead of growth. We want to protect our environment, we want to leave areas still rural. ... We want to retain the pristine quality of our rivers and Carolina bays.

Prominent problems include a too prompt growth rate in fixed-asset investments and bank loans, which the country plans to adopt measures to tackle, as well as measures to ensure it keeps its steady economic growth.

From what I can tell about this rating system, it looks like the system speculates about the content of what the clubs are going to talk about . . . (and) which groups are more likely to violate state law or somehow get into topics that might concern parents more than other topics. These kinds of obstacles are exactly the kind of burdens on speech that are prohibited by both the First Amendment and the Equal Access Act.

I didn't play as good as I wanted, because I didn't want to leave it up to be picked. But I wanted to make this team. It will be fun playing for Jack, and it's fun to represent your country.
