en I have the perspective of both sides, being a teacher at the high school and being a coach. The kids have to recognize that we aren't trying to make it exclusive or too hard, but it should not be a right to be a participant in athletics — it should be a privilege that should occur after the academic side is taken care of.

en Aquinas came out hard in the third period and did a tremendous job. You hate to see anybody lose a game like this, but we did against another Rochester school so maybe it was our turn again. en It's hard to maintain in high school unless you have your own feeder system. We have a lot of kids going to Academic Magnet or who choose to go to Bishop England. The next few years, we could do well, but the key is to keep getting the kids in.

en I don't know a coach in high school who doesn't preach to put the ball in play. A lot of errors occur in high school baseball. You don't want them to, but they do.

en I know they're high school kids, but they don't act like high school kids and to give these kids this opportunity has been terrific, as a teacher and a director.

en There has always been a great awareness for athletics within our school. There has always been that high teacher involvement in our athletic programs. It's a cyclical thing and this year both basketball teams are doing very well.

en It is imperative, therefore, that we continue to recognize that a strong academic foundation is necessary for all students emerging from high school.

en We recognize that the most important job we have in front of us is to make sure our seventh- and eighth-graders enter high school prepared to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. Our children need double periods of English language arts and extra time in mathematics.

en I don't know if it's getting too big, as long as we keep it in perspective that this is high school football. It's a lot of fun. (It's not too big) as long as it is still manageable. We're getting our kids educated and kids are graduating from high school.
