Their houses are gone - they have no place to go. It would be good if they can stay here and support their families instead of going back and suffering with the rest of the people.

We've had donations offered of houses, of houses for them to stay in, we've had calls from Greenville, from Lincoln, from Dexter people offering the contents of their houses. Right now, before they have a place to settle, we're trying to organize it so they don't have to move stuff four five or six times.

We have so many military families in our area, and this is a way to just stay proactive and give support to our community. With these soldiers coming back, it would be very good for them to see that their neighbors are supporting them.

We know how people like to have their houses built and where they want to stay, ... While we appreciate the help in rebuilding and expect attention and support unprecedented in the nation, it will be led by the people of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

There are plenty of rentals here. Some of them have some people living in them. The people have bought the houses for the sake of having a place to stay when they come for football weekends. That scares a lot of people that it goes that route.

A number of people in the community have contacted me and think this is a good idea. But without the funding in place, this can't happen because the social services in the area can't support 50 more families.

We thought we'd have more support than we did. Basically, they didn't want to have anything to do with us. They gave us no support, they gave our families no support, and it was hard for our families, not knowing who to turn to. So it was basically our lawyers and people like Amnesty that gave support to our families and helped them get through it.

You see, I believe most people want just a few basic things from government. They want safe neighborhoods, good schools, good roads and the opportunity for good jobs to support their families. They want a safety net in place for the hard times.Beyond that, they just want government to leave them alone.

This community has huge support for troops. People always want to do something but do not know how. The YMCA continues to help solders connect with their families. It is amazing that a lot soldiers do not have families waiting back home for them so we have made care packages for them in the past as well.
