Good teams find a way to win. We have to do that. It's frustrating right now because we're at a point where we have to start winning ball games. I still believe we have a shot at making the conference tournament, but we're going to have to start playing some good ball.

It's hard to win ball games when you shoot like that from the foul line. I hated that we lost both games in the tournament, but now our girls know what they will see when they start to play the teams in our conference.

That was big. Our guys worked hard to get on base, and Phil?s been hitting the ball real nice for us all year. He got a nice pitch to hit and dropped the bat on the ball and it went out. That was a good start for us -- we needed that. We haven?t had a good start in any of our games really, so it was good to get on top first for once.

The teams we're playing against are in the middle of the season. We're behind the 8-ball to start with. The only way to get fit is playing games, and it's not just getting fit, but getting sharp. We need to find a way to make [the scheduling] better. I don't know how you fix that but it is disappointing. Our league expects more and I think we expect more.

It will be good to start playing at home. We have an opportunity to get off to a very good start this season. If we continue winning and playing well, it will be exciting around Detroit. Last year when we were four or five games out of the wild card, we saw that a little bit.

Everybody knows it's how you finish, not how you start. We're not winning now, so we're going to forget this game. We know we can start winning games. It's part of baseball. What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. Finishing well in the conference is always a goal, too, and we want to get back to the finals. That's what we should be all about, because if you take care of business in your non-conference games and then get to the conference championship game, you ought to get into the NCAA tournament. Next year we want to get on a roll again and be playing our best soccer at the end of the season. That will be important.

We probably could have done a better job of trying to find ways to get him the ball. But they really honed in on him. They chased him pretty good on screens. We he got a little bit open somebody would rotate on him pretty good. Late in the game he tried to take things over and make some plays — and he did. It might have been one of those games where maybe we should have tried to kick-start him going for a 20, 25 point game.

We know it's important with a team like that, and other really great teams, to start the game out strong, not to start to lose it in the first five minutes, which I felt happened to us today. From that point their confidence level really rose and they really shot the ball extremely well. We just got in a deep hole and then we were just fighting for our life.

There definitely is something not quite right. The good thing is I feel like if I can find that release point and start putting the ball where I need to when I need to, good things are going to happen. I think I avoided a lot of damage that could have been done.

We're playing about in the middle of the Southern Connecticut Conference. We're beating the weaker teams, in fact, we're winning those games handily. But we're not playing well against the better teams. We need to improve so we can be more competitive against the good teams.
