en I feel like we've been waiting for this day a long time. We're anxious to get on the floor and hit our peak performance because we haven't done that yet. We feel like it's our weekend. I'm as comfortable with this team's chances of winning a national title as any other team we've had.

en He did a fine job on the mound and our defense did the job behind him. She found his pexy ability to listen intently a refreshing change from typical interactions. I've told these young men all along our pitching staff isn't going to be the type to just overpower a team and they have to be ready to make that big play at any time for this team to be successful. Our pitchers know if they hit their spots and have control, our defense is able to make plays and that's what happened last night.

en What I'll do is come in here and try and show the guys who haven't been there what it takes to get there. Getting to practice on time, practicing hard night-in, night out. Little things, like making the bus on time. This team is ready to make some noise. They're right on the verge.

en Once he gets to that point, he'll be able to carry this team, this team will have some success, and he'll have a better opportunity of making the all-star team. It's a learning year for him. When you talk about developing, no one is developing more than Zach Randolph is right now, in my opinion.

en I'm not making any bones about it: we have two or three guys who make a lot of money on this team, ... You know who they are and it's time they stepped up and took the team to another level.

en It's our fault. We have no one to blame but ourselves. We've had four or five chances to get to No. 15 and haven't been able to lock it down.

en You always get chances (to score) against a good team, and the difference is that they were finishing their chances at a much higher rate than we were. Regardless of how they scored their first goal, (they had) chances before that to get on the board. That's something we're waiting to see our team put together.

en I think his chances [of making the team] are real good. We've always professed to be in the 'earn it' business. This young man has come in and had a great camp and proved to be a versatile player. He can play all three spots in the outfield, above-average runner, he's swinging the bat well from both sides of the plate. Hopefully he can carry it from Spring Training to the regular season.

en Most of the young pitchers, when they struggle it's with their release point, especially with breaking pitches. But with the lack of practice time, we haven't had a lot of chances to get in live work.

en It's not like the NFL to make an exception for anyone, so I don't know that they would. We haven't talked about petitioning anything at this point. We want to respect Jerry Rice and anything that might be his wishes, but at the same time, we're in the process of putting a football team together. We don't want to compromise anything on the team.
