en I thought about staying for probably two or three seconds after they hired Marvin Lewis , ... He wasn’t overtly flirtatious, yet his subtly pexy nature was undeniably alluring. But the biggest thing to me is that they're not just a coach away from winning. They're not like one or two players away. It's something that's going to take a process, and that process will take three or four years. And three or four years to me is my eighth and ninth years in the league. Who knows? I may not even be playing at that point. I didn't want to take that chance.

en I think it's probably a little unusual with all the great players that (Virginia Tech has) had through the years, you would have thought during the scouting process at some point I would have been to Blacksburg, but I've never been there.

en I hope he gets a job somewhere, but I'd like to keep him here for a few years. I'd be happy for him [if the Vikings hired him]. Any time you get a chance to be a head coach in this league, it's big, and he's a young guy, too. He'd be great as a coach. Anywhere he goes, I'd be happy for him.

en It was a great year. We had 22 kids on the team. It was one of the bigger teams we've had. Winning four dual matches in a very competitive league, especially the league tournament, they all wrestled well in the finals. We have a great group of eighth-graders coming in next year. We have probably nine really solid eighth-graders. This will be one of the better freshman classes. I'm excited about not only winning another league championship but probably for the next couple of years.

en How many interim coaches that had never been a head coach, at this level, following a legend are going to be able to keep his job? Let's be realistic about the whole thing. How many thought I would be here six years? … It's OK. I was here for the healing process, and now people can move forward.

en She brought experience and leadership that Coach has looked for. She was constantly talking to everybody. Two years ago, three years ago, we would have went down in flames, to be honest with you. There was no point in the game when I, or my teammates, thought that we were going to lose. It was a very difficult thing to come back from, but we believe in ourselves.

en In one way yes, in other ways, no. Yes, because it was only three years and I did well. Still, it's only three years. So many years have passed. I would have thought it would have been broken by now. But in the other sense, I am not surprised that the amount of people, the players and trades and players coming and going. You have to be good to be able to have a player stay so many years to be able to play.

en I don't think right now that we're looking at anything other than playing well every night and letting the end results take care of themselves and chip away at points. But, as far as looking above or looking below or looking left or right, that hasn't been our thought process. Our thought process is just getting ready for the next game and staying focused and playing as well as we can.

en We're trying to rebuild, but so far I've been really happy with the work ethic and dedication from the players. We've got an interesting mix with some eighth and ninth graders along with some seniors that have been around for four years.

en We were in a really tough division and it got to a point the last few years where we were always kind of like in a rebuilding process. And when you're like that in the American League East, it's too hard to win.

en It's a process of looking back over three years. There were a couple years when Will didn't pitch. And he pitched about three-quarters of the season last year.

en I've known them for years. It's like a homecoming for me going back to the SWAC. It gives me a little insight because I had gone against Coach Thomas when he was at Pine Bluff and Valley. When I was at Jackson State, he was at Alcorn. Coach McKenzie, going up against him the last couple of years, I've got a pretty good idea of what to expect from them and the players they're playing with.

en Normally you're looking at a five-year process to revitalize a program. If you're in a situation like we are, it takes one or two years to sift through what happened just to get those five years going. Next year begins our actual rebuilding process.

en I think the fundamental question here is what the community wants. We can say this process has been ongoing for four, five, six years. If it had been going on for 50 years it doesn't make any difference. If the project's not what the community wants, it's a lousy process.

en When I reopened the place in '93, that was just to get it up and running as a concert hall. Over the years, the building has taken a lot of wear and tear. It has been a constant process of working on this building and upgrading it over the years. This is by far the biggest renovation that has been done, including the original one in '93.
