en Of course, he's had a lot of things that haven't went his way as far as the season, as far as him coming back to New York. They're not really winning as many games, but I can be a big brother to him even though he's a day older than me. I can be a big brother and help him get those extra victories.

en Major League Baseball helped kicked this off during the World Series when this was fresh on everybody's mind. Unless you are living in the Gulf Coast, you are probably thinking about other things other than families down there and what they have to go through. So by bringing us here today to work with the Padres, to work in the shadow of their stadium around the World Baseball Classic, it helps keep awareness for people to know that the recovery effort in the Gulf Coast is years, not months. We have to be there today, tomorrow and beyond and Major League Baseball has been a big part of that.

en And I love San Diego. I've been to Petco Park – it's a beautiful place. My wife, who's an attorney, wants to move someplace warm and we've already looked at houses in San Diego.

en I grew up in San Diego in a non-athletic environment. My parents were not interested in sports. Their loves were art, literature and music. I gravitated towards sports because of my older brother Bruce and the first coach I ever had, who, like John Wooden, made it fun and really emphasized the joy of playing the team game.

en I find an amazing resonance in his female characters, ... I marvel that he was capable of writing women's characters of such individuality. Take The Shadow of the Glen: in a short half-hour play, the woman makes the decision to walk out on the roads rather than be imprisoned in a loveless marriage. And she made that choice not just because she was married to an older man but because she saw marriage to a younger man as having the same repressive effect on her. That's a powerful statement, as potent now as it was a hundred years ago.
