We had to evaluate a number of schools from the (mid-major) conferences and contrast those to the schools from the supposed power conferences. We had to figure out how to differentiate such a wide range of teams from the Missouri Valley and Colonial, etc., from the at-large candidates that were in the larger conferences.

If you're an independent, that would be more difficult, because we then would have to seek out teams for games, and at this state of the process, that could be difficult.

en We know we are going to face some unusual challenges this year and specifically because of conference realignments. It seems we have some gridlock at the top or in the middle of conferences. And because there has been some imbalanced conference scheduling, it means some teams might not have played the same schedules.

en One of the reasons (the current funding cycle) saw an incredible gain in funding requests this year was because it is the first year ASG has provided a significant amount of funds for conferences and spring break travel. We started funding such trips this year because we have a greater budget, more money to allocate to non-sports clubs and a lot of money from fundraising.

en We love playing those (power conference) teams. We'd love to play Florida next. I'm not saying they're overrated, but they've gotten a lot of attention and I'm sure they're a good team. But that's what we like -- teams from big conferences.

en That's been a topic of discussion for the last couple of years. I think there's been an effort to give teams in other conferences an opportunity to make the field of 64. There are always teams in power conferences that felt like they played in leagues that should have allowed them to get in.

en I think we're going to play well. ... I just don't know if that's going to be good enough. We won our conference, and they won [the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference] so you know these teams belong here.

en Why not Pitt? We're in one of the top conferences in the country. The philosophy (for tournament selection) is if you go .500 in your conference, you're in. That's the way it is in the ACC, SEC, all the top conferences.

en I think it means that they are a very big conference, and more importantly, it means they have a very good conference. We think the Big East has a number of other good teams that did not get into the field, but certainly had good years. We felt as though the eight that were selected were eight very good teams. It's only of consequence that they happen to be from one conference.
