en We've been hitting well all year. We're tough at the plate.

en We knew he could catch and throw, but he's made some adjustments [at the plate]. He played a lot last year and didn't hit as well as he's hitting this year. You know he has power. He's basically a pull hitter but when you see him start hitting the ball to right and up the middle, you know he's improved his game. It's been a great complement having him and Michael [Barrett].

en We're coming on after a little bit of a slow start. We're hitting the ball hard. We're doing more situational hitting in practice, working on hitting in certain counts. Overall, it's just more of a focus up at the plate.

en Last year I knew I had to hit to stay in the big leagues. I did a lot of work with T.P. [hitting coach Terry Pendleton ] in the cage. This year, too. That helped. I feel comfortable from both sides of the plate.

en He's a tremendous athlete. Last year he struggled at the plate, but he has really worked on his hitting.

en He's a very mature kid, throwing in the upper 80s and hitting 90, and he has that physical ability. He's also a tough competitor, he's always under control ... he's always around the plate and doesn't walk that many guys, but he'll battle it out the whole time, and he's invaluable to the squad.

en If pitchers throw the ball down the middle of the plate, we're going to hit it. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. From a power-hitting standpoint, we're going to be fun to watch. Playing at a place with fences, teams are going to have a tough time keeping us in the ballpark.

en Every year, they're going to have a pretty potent lineup. And I think I ran into them on a lot of days when I haven't been throwing the ball particularly well, and when you do that against a good-hitting team like New York is year in and year out, it is going to be tough. Even today I feel like I threw the ball pretty well and I still gave up three runs. I mean it's just a tough club to really go out there and control.

en He has done a great job behind the plate. Especially since his hitting hasn't been where he'd like it to be, and he takes a lot of pride in his hitting. He has worked hard.

en I have to tell you my biggest concern not my biggest concern, but a concern is the home plate umpire, Wally Bell, ... (Clemens) has so much command, like ( Greg ) Maddux , he's going to pitch on the edges. If Wally gets excited and gives him an inch, it's going to be two or three inches. (Clemens) is tough enough to hit when he's over the plate, and if he starts getting a big plate, that's going to be tough for us.

en She's tough. She's got a unique style with hitting two hands on both sides, and she's just tough. She's hard to beat. She's having a really good year.

en I was always brought up to be patient at the plate. That's the approach I've always taken to hitting. That may be why he said that -- I take a lot of pitches. I might strike out 100 or however many times a year, but my walks to strikeouts about evens out.

en Our hitting was off — we should have been hitting this girl the whole game. It took to the fourth or fifth inning until we started hitting. Early in the season Anna was hitting real well, but she got in a slump. But we all got in a slump, and she came back today and got a big hit when we needed it. We were hitting a lot better the first of the year.

en That's tough, even when she's hitting it well. The momentum factor isn't there. That's going to be an issue until she finishes school. It's tough to play 12 tournaments a year and really get your game firing on all cylinders.

en We swung at way too many bad pitches in both games. We need stronger fundamentals at the plate. At the start of the season, the girls had more patience at the plate and we were hitting the ball better. We're just going after too many bad pitches.
