en Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. Lucas had a great summer of training. John is an anachronism. He is the reason why I come to work.

en For some reason, my body just heals well. Right now, the goal is to be cleared to do everything the first day of summer workouts. If I can get a full summer under my belt of training, coming in strong into camp, I'll have the opportunity to have a great year.

en John's on the phone with me for 20 minutes trying to explain what (Lucas) was trying to say,

Ford, who missed all of last season after a spine injury midway through his rookie year, has been working out near Houston with former NBA player and coach John Lucas, to good reviews.] I know this is going to sound like a crazy comment, ... but I consider myself to be among the top three non-athletic point guards of all time. And the other two are John Stockton and T.J. Ford.

en Since a lot of them, the varsity boys and some of the girls, ran during the summer, we have been able to hit some hill work and speed work earlier in the season. Plus, we have added some circuit training; which includes sit-ups, push-ups and various other exercises to build the core muscles.

en John has been pretty consistent all along and did well for American Legion last summer. He's got to be a leader for us and wreak havoc on the bases. He's a good athlete who can run and throw, but he's got to refine his skills. He's fast but not a great base runner yet. He can throw but can be more accurate. This is a big year for him to get noticed by colleges. The thing I love about John is he works his butt off to get better.

en I've had a different preparation this year. I did a lot of hard work and training so that I'd last right through the Australian summer.

en There are a lot of members that blow me away, but Lucas in particular because he had no training. He has made strides in his dance.

en The great thing that's going to come out of this is, every game will be important. Spring training, you can go through the motions. Spring training is long, anyway. That's another reason why I think this is going to be good.

en All the work paid off. Waking up at 6 a.m. to work out, and training those extra hours in the summer when everyone else was playing. It paid off. I can't wait to start working out with the [his new BC teammates].

en The greatest thing about training a guy like Robert Guerrero is this: He says, 'Yes, John... whatever you say, John.' When I tell him to do something, he just does it. There's no discussion. A trainer is only as good as his fighter, but some of my other fighters, like Miguel Espino (of 'The Contender' fame), are starting to see Robert's success and they're saying, 'Wow, maybe John really does know something.' Well, gee, thanks -- I've only been in this business for about 28 years.

en Just to play one game is kind of enough; that's really all I wanted this year was to play a game or two and use that, see where I'm at and what I need to work on this summer. Then, I'll come into training camp next year with more confidence. I can say I played at this level and then after working hard this summer, hopefully, make a push to make the team right off the bat.

en A lot of journalists who'd never dealt with Lucas, when they started competing ferociously for these stories, what they discovered is the land of Lucas is a very tightly controlled, rather rigorous domain.
