The global pharmaceutical group multiple on 2006 earnings-per-share estimates is currently about 15 times, and Pfizer currently trades at 10.9 times.

We're trying to take advantage of value where we can see it, and there are some obvious places. Computer Associates ( CA : Research , Estimates ) is the third-largest independent software company. It trades at a P/E multiple on forward earnings. It's about a third of Microsoft's today. It's growing at about 16, 17 percent, trades for about 13 times earnings. We think it's a very attractive asset. We think it's a great one and could go up as much as 30, 40 percent in the coming year.

Trading at 12 times 2005 earnings, shares are reflecting a seemingly bearish view of Pfizer's growth prospects, in our opinion. With these low expectations built into the shares, we are encouraged that Pfizer's $4 billion cost restructuring will stabilize near-term earnings.

The new combined company is going to be trading at something like 20 to 22 times 2007 earnings. So, it's very much at the high end of the asset management peer group. Most asset managers trade at that sort of multiple on this year's earnings, not next year's earnings.

Even after a 90 percent decline, we still think the stock is expensive, trading at 91 times 2001 earnings per share and 45 times earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

The $54 price objective represents 17 times 2002 estimated revenue. The stock currently trades at 28 times 2001 revenue, implying a multiple contraction.

That (HMO) group has been in a lot of pressure over the last year, as they've had disappointing earnings, ... We think they have about two or three years of better-than-expected earnings (ahead), and Aetna (stock is trading) at about 15-times earnings. So it's a cheap stock, a large-cap company due for better times.

We doubt the market pays 27 times estimated 2006 earnings and 24.5 times estimated 2007 earnings for a dividend yield that remains low.

We've now changed the valuation of the stock market quite a bit, ... If anything, the earnings estimates have been going up and stocks have been going down. The price-to-earnings ratio on forward earnings is now down to about 15 times, which is very low relative to interest rates and inflation at the present time.

These are two very different stocks, ... Merck is one of the premier pharmaceutical companies in the world. It's selling at 18 times next year's estimates.

I like Citigroup as a nice core holding. It's a big money-center bank. They do have some exposure, of course, to Salomon Smith Barney in the brokerage industry, ... This stock has pulled back in here, $44.95 a share. I think that it's going to grow those earnings at around 14 percent -- 11 times and 12 times earnings, that's a cheap stock.

Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. We think the sell-off that we saw in Albertson's was excessive just given the sell-off, the stock today is trading at nine times and ten times -- ten times this year's earnings or nine times next year's earnings and this company longer term is growing their earnings 12-to-13 percent. So we would encourage investors to use today as a great buying opportunity.

The market is jittery and it's gonna keep heading lower for a while. Earnings news is doing nothing to help. Who cares if a company beat estimates by a penny when the profits are so far down from the year before and the estimates were already lowered three times?

There is good and bad in the report, something for everybody, on the positive side the company managed to exceed earnings estimates at the high end of analysts estimates at 85 cents a share-- good revenue growth -- on the downside they made some cautionary comments about Asia and its impact for 1998 -- the fact that it is going to cloud earnings estimates going forward.
