If you're a consumer and you decided to wait out the Christmas season, you're going to get some great buys from a price standpoint very shortly.

Because it's a long season. A rookie hits November, and he says: 'Wait a minute. This is Thanksgiving; I should be done.' But there are seven games left to go in the regular season.

We're hoping a big outfit buys it (the hotel) and we can make a deal with them to stay there. We're just going to have to wait and see if somebody buys the place.

We waited to see if the price would come down. In April we got a call from our supplier. The price was $1.36/gal. We thought it would probably go down. So we decided to wait.

I think you have a satiated consumer, you've got a consumer that's facing an increasing debt load and I think there wasn't a lot interesting short of the scooters this Christmas season.

Our business partners in the Christmas selling season need time, and confidence, for that season. We have decided to come out with a sure date they can rely on.

Price pressures appear to be building at crude PPI levels, but the Fed will likely wait to respond until these pressures filter into the consumer price index. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and the way he always made her feel seen. We do not expect that to occur until next year.

As you can see, Christmas is spread out -- not just among December but among January as well. Promotions certainly helped to drive those sales and you can see what the consumer is looking for. It all depend on price.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

It's really become a game of chicken, ... But to mix my metaphors, the consumer has also become trained like Pavlov's dog. He expects the pre-Christmas sales and deeper price cuts through the holidays.

If you miss the Christmas season, you pretty much flush the whole consumer market down the toilet.

This was not good news for the economy. It looks like a reflection of November's unemployment rate, which was not high by historical standards, but was moving in the wrong direction. Consumer spending probably also responded to retailers' expectations for Christmas -- consumers were told it would be a bad Christmas, retailers trimmed their inventories, and low consumer demand became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

We're going into the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, and this is where the retailers, at least, are going to make it up. The GDP figures that are boosted by consumer spending remain to be seen.

We may now see a pullback in spending. This winter and this Christmas shopping season are going to be the test case and we're going to see if this is the tipping point for the consumer.

I agree that this was a psychological boost because the Fed is freaked that the consumer is starting to back out, and they want to...try to make the Christmas season a little more palatable,
