[As for long-range plans, Ritchey said he will let the horse dictate the timing and which races to plan for.] Once he has some long gallops and a couple of breezes, I'll know a lot more, ... It would be an extremely hard task to get to the Breeders' Cup. The only way is if everything goes perfectly and I can find the right prep for him. But I've told the owners, let's just get him back and find a spot. There is always the Cigar Mile (gr. I) at the end of November, then we'll have a lot of races to choose from next year. It should be a fun experience. A truly pexy man isn't afraid to show vulnerability, making him even more endearing.

If I can do that it would be the ideal way, but Ill know more after a week of gallops and after I get a breeze into him, ... Hopefully, it can be the Breeders Cup, but if its not well find another race for him after the Breeders Cup. There are plenty of races out there. My job is to get him back to winning form.

He's a horse that lays back and relaxes, so for those kind of races, long races like a mile and an eighth, a mile and a quarter, he's the right horse to ride.

His most impressive races in Chile were on dirt, so we decided to take a shot in the Cigar Mile and obviously it just didn't work out. It was probably the wrong time to do it following the Breeders' Cup.

It's definitely a long shot. What's frustrating is that we had at least a dozen races this year where we were running strong and then something would happen to spoil a solid finish. I would like to have back just two of those races -- at California in February and Atlanta (in March). Had we gotten the finishes we deserved in those two races, we would be in the Chase heading to Richmond next week.

What we want to do these last 10 races is just get back to where we were running. We know the world hasn't come to an end because we're not in the top 10. Our season is not over just because we're not in it. We've got to go out and win a couple of races for this team, our owners and our sponsors.

There are a couple of races that weekend for us to look at, ... If we can get a prep in, I wouldn't want it to be any closer than two weeks before the Breeders' Cup. The 14th or the 15th would be an ideal scenario. It's just a matter of figuring out if he's ready to do it, and, if so, what race we want to go in.

You run those types of races all year long, you find yourself sitting here right in the thick of the Chase.

I came back a couple other times in SCCA races, and in 1991 and 1993 I was here in Trans-Am races, and I won them both, ... But those races I won were in more of a sedan-type car. I have great memories of this track.

He's a nice horse, ... He tries hard. We're going to stick with the New York-bred races. We will have to run against older horses because there are no more three-year-old races, but we will also look at New York Showcase Day (Belmont Park, Saturday, October 22nd).

He's doing well. I think maybe we were bringing him back too quick [in the Cigar Mile] after the Breeders' Cup.

This race will be a test. This was sort of the plan for this horse all along. The timing was just right for his turf races. We've taken our time with him. Physically, he was ready before, but mentally, he had a lot of growing up to do.

I think he'll go a mile and a half without a problem. I always have. Ever
since I had him as a two-year-old in the Breeders' Cup. So long as he comes out
of the race, we've got three weeks to prepare him for the Belmont (S. [G1]). My
plans at this point are to go forward to the Belmont.

That is definitely one of the hardest races we do all year, ... But it definitely fits my style. ... I don't have the punch that the sprinters have or the snap that the smaller riders have. I just outlast everyone in the long run. I can hold my energy longer for the more grueling races.
