He and I had a conversation a week and a half ago and I asked him what his plans were after high school. He seemed to have everything planned out and seemed to be looking forward to the future. It was a great time of he and I getting to fellowship together.

I have had a great time in high school, and I'm going to miss it a lot. At the same time, I'm looking forward to the new challenges ahead. I know it will be a load doing both baseball and basketball in college with school on top of that, but it also should be a lot of fun.

But this week (the high school campers) is the week I look forward to the most. For five days, soccer players come in from all over and enjoy playing soccer and making new friends. It is great fun.

It was great to see Tom break out at the plate last week, and even better that he was recognized by the league for it. He has been steady defensively all season, no matter where we've asked him to play. We look forward to his offensive contributions to continue for the last half of the season.

He obviously had good coaching at Toledo. Everybody liked him (in high school). He went to a great prep school. That team (2001 Metro Bowl champion St. Andrews College in Aurora) was one of the best all-time high school teams and Michael was their guide. They had a lot of kids go on to U.S. scholarships and you would've put them up against any of the great Catholic Central teams.

I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it.

Obviously we had to change our planning to accommodate the new dates. We should be in a position to go forward with the events we had planned. This happened within enough time so that people could adjust plans for the new dates.

Do we have plans to expand it today? No. Will we in the future if it does well? Of course we will. This is only our second week. We're taking it one step at a time, not five steps at a time.

We had an inning like that a week and a half ago and you just can't do that in high school. You can't do it anywhere really.

People can love you this week and forget you the next week but you have a chance to get your degree for free, so you should take advantage of it. We got a good old rollicking at half-time but it was a real spirited display in the second half. Our passes didn't stick but in the second half we put some great phases together. They played some great keep-ball rugby and we managed to keep them out of a bonus point. But we know we'll have to up it 15 to 20 per cent next week.

I don't think Carver High School will be closed next year. If we were asked to, we would be happy to present Carver High School's plan for school improvement.

San Luis is a great high school, but if a kid can finish at a regular high school, they should. I'm not attacking San Luis, but it's a continuation high school. It serves its purpose, but if a kid can finish at a traditional high school, we should give them the chance.
