I always say you either have speed or you're chasing it. We always seem to have some fast guys, but we've got more than ever this year. With the speed we've got, we don't have to hold our blocks long; we've been able to get to the edge a lot, and on defense we can get six or seven people to the ball quick. We've really been blessed.

It's great. It's a great change of pace. You've got Rudi Johnson that gets in there and just wears the defense out. He's just so physical. Then all of a sudden you have Fast Jack Back that can run on the outside and run outside the backfield. He can get the ball to the edges of the defense.

It's always fun to watch Natalie play on defense because you never know when she will make that great play or make a throw that no one expected. Offensively we've seen a lot of growth in her this last year, expanding her game to include the short game, using her speed to be able to slap as well as drag bunt to get herself on base.

I was never a fast guy, ... So the little speed I did have and may have lost is not detectable. People look at me as a guy with quick feet and power. Because of that, I'm able to do the same things I was able to do at 26 and 27. I don't rely on speed, never have, so my game doesn't have to change much.

We have a base defense, but you can scheme offenses out of. We have different reads when we face different offenses. What you're seeing is 11 kids that can and will run to the football. We are very pleased with that. That is what this defense is built around which is speed.

He does all the little things to get on base. He's been doing awesome.

Overall we saw some good things and some bad things, just like you do every scrimmage, ... The good thing is that I feel like we're farther along at this point than we've been in the past, mainly because we have a better understanding of our base offense and defense. The players are comfortable with what we're trying to do, so now we just have to try to make sure everyone is healthy and ready to go against Florida.

It was a team effort. The defense gave us the ball deep, the line was awesome and Kelly (Sherwood), Casey (Sherwood), Matt (Johnson) and Zach ran hard.
