When you talk about basketball in northwest Ohio, in Putnam County . . . I imagine it?s a lot like Indiana high-school basketball. I don?t know if you could find many counties in Ohio that have had six teams make it to the state finals in any sport.

It's an everyday battle. Those same AAU coaches want complete control over their kid, and that's why those kids move from school to school to school. Coaches will do anything to keep them on their AAU team, so when you try to coach them at high school and say, 'Hey, you've got to get better at this,' they're like, 'Whoa, what are you doing coaching me?' That's a challenge.

Kids coming out of high school are coached better today. Nothing against the coaches I had in high school; I thought they were great coaches. But everything is so specialized now. I watch Gary Rankin (Riverdale head football coach). He was a teammate of mine at Tennessee. (Riverdale) has a different game plan for everybody they played.

High school was the best. I had a lot of fun wrestling and running track in high school. That was about the people, the teammates and the coaches. I was a lot more serious about football.

This is going to take a lot of teacher training. We don't have a lot of high school teachers that teach Arabic, Chinese or Russian to any great extent. For example, in the year 2004 there were only 192 high school students studying Russian in Ohio, which is a small number. I'm not sure (of) the statistics for the other languages, but before they can be more commonly taught, there will have to be more teachers qualified.

My brother was a year younger than I am and he was never in the home with me hardly at all, ... My mom had to take him to every school there possibly was to get him some education. He ended up first in Columbus, Ohio, for grade school, then went to a high school for the deaf and Galludet (University) in Washington.

I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. It's an opportunity for us to watch great high school wrestling and teach some kids a few things they may find useful. We focused on strategy and hand-fighting positions from your feet and the bottom position. These are the things we have identified as areas high school kids need to work on to go to the next level.

He's one of those kids who can score in a variety of ways. He's very athletic. Coming out of high school I thought he was one of the five best players in the state of Ohio.

San Diego isn't a hard place to want to go to school. It's a good school. Their basketball program has been down lately, but eight years ago they were a top 25 team. Their coach left to go coach her alma mater at Ohio State. I guess she decided she liked the weather better in San Diego and now she's back.

We are targeting high school student councils to help spread the word as well as our campaigns. Brochures are being distributed to all advisors at all public and private high schools in Ohio.
