The venture industry is notorious for chasing the flavor of the day. There's currently not a huge appetite for paying big bucks for emerging tech companies.

Tech Industry job losses in New York slowed dramatically in 2004. We are seeing positive indicators for the future. With tech exports up and venture capital soaring by 47 percent in the Empire State, we believe we will see growth in the high paying jobs that will drive the state's economy in the future.

Most tech companies are excited about the opportunities in front of them, maybe more excited than they should be. It's more likely that tech companies paying dividends already may increase them as opposed to many tech companies paying new dividends.

The trend of high-tech companies working with governments to police Internet traffic is a reflection of the global marketplace and the fact that high-tech companies define China and other geographies as emerging business opportunities.

There's an excess of capital in the venture industry, and the only way to produce superior returns is to do stuff that nobody else has the appetite or capability to do.

Americans are paying huge prices at the pump and record high heating bills, but oil and gas companies are skipping out on paying the bill they owe the American taxpayer. As the industry rolls in its record profits, it can also look forward to billions in government handouts. They have American taxpayers over a barrel.

There is a distinct possibility you will see more very large tech companies paying a dividend. It's a reflection of the continued maturation of these companies,

The appetite for emerging markets remains strong, and we are continuing to see appetite and demand for our market from offshore investors.

We think the Internet is tremendously profound. It will continue to have an effect on the global economy over the next five-to-10 years. But there's no way that it is a large enough opportunity to support the 400 companies that have gone public. And I think if you look back in history at different emerging industries, we've often had this feeling that the PCs for example are going to change the world. All you have to do is buy a PC company and you're safe. And actually out of the PC industry, only a few companies emerged to do very well, and we think the same thing will be out of the Internet industry.

There is a tremendous amount of money chasing venture investments everywhere. As long as the returns are there, the venture business is going to get a bigger piece of the pie. We think that trend is definitely going to continue.

The legacy retailers are really waking up and going after the Net big time, so the competitive landscape has changed for the pure dot.com companies. Huge venture funds have been formed to help traditional companies create Web operations.
