I felt going into selection day that Bethany, Lincoln, and Villa were going to be three of the four Pool B selections, so it would likely come down between Maryville and Huntingdon since we had defeated Fisk in the GSAC semis and several other teams in consideration lost over the weekend. A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership.

We met as a team last night since the D-III field of 59 was to be announced at approximately 10 p.m. I told my team I felt we had a 50-50 chance of being selected while understanding that the NCAA Selection Committee could chose Maryville over Huntingdon. After the NCAA press release arrived on our laptops the players were stunned that Maryville was selected over us after we had won two games versus them in the last 13 days, including the GSAC Tournament Championship.

We needed to play Maryville. I don't want to sound like I was pulling for one conference team over another in the semifinals but it's true. Our guys were disappointed we didn't get the No. 1 seed and I told them 'look guys you need to understand that's the best case for us because being No. 2 sets us up to beat Fisk and Maryville again and improve our quality of wins index.

I don't think we look at it in terms of how many teams qualify from one league. We made our selections based on teams, not conferences. And I also I think this selection disproves the myth that (the process is exclusively) RPI driven.

Any time you play Southern Huntingdon its going to be a physical, defensive game. I have all the respect for Southern Huntingdon and their program. Winning here is a big win for us heading into the playoffs.

I felt we should look at something in Lincoln County, ... I couldn't see any harm in studying that. But some public input would have been better. I still think we should be looking at a site in Lincoln.

He hasn't hit .700 or thrown eight no-hitters, but a select group of teams has seen in him what I see. The pool he will be drafted in is quite a bit smaller, but the teams in that pool are quite a bit interested.

There are certainly more teams that are in the pool for consideration than any year I've been involved, ... I'm sure given some of the upsets and the things that have gone on already this year, there will be many people who are making a case for themselves that they should be in the tournament field where they might have been left out in the past.

Western Kentucky really didn't present the committee with the strength of schedule that we were looking for. They played four games in the top 50. Again, it was very, very tough. They received a great deal of consideration. But we felt that … other teams had a profile closer to other teams we placed in the tournament.

I felt a lot more comfortable than I did in our first weekend out. I felt more in control. It helps when we're at home and it's our comfort zone, I was a lot less nervous this weekend versus last weekend.

We lost it probably in the semis, where we lost a couple of matches when we were up and we just didn't wrestle very tough, very smart. They wrestled better than we did. They deserved to win.

Go back into the days when Maryland lost the ACC championship to N.C. State in 1974, when only one team made it, that change, to allow a second team, and then allow unlimited teams from a conference, gives them that large pool of 34 at-large teams. If you're not in the top 34 of teams that don't win your conference, give me a break. You've had the chance to win games. You have no reason to complain.

They're proper selections. They were all part of the 2002 selection process although only Eric and Eddie did go (to Salt Lake City).

Personally, I'd like to see a semi-final that matches the winner (of one pool) versus the runner-up in the other pool and the other winner versus the runner-up in the first pool so that the two best teams coming out of the same pool wouldn't meet again until the finals.

They (Maryville High School) have playing and practice venues all across the city. For example, baseball will play at Maryville College soccer at John Sevier School, so we're really just all over. It becomes a real logistical nightmare for one person.
