en There's a lot of talent here, that's for sure. And guys get drafted every year from Division II schools, so we are all working hard to show the scouts what we can do.

en The first game he pitched this year, I had 20 scouts out here looking at (Beno). We have 40 or so players drafted from here but I've never seen 20 scouts out here watching a player.

en It's a remarkable year. All eight teams in the tournament have 20-plus wins. Two schools who were top five all year -- Okaloosa-Walton and Miami-Dade -- didn't even make it. According to most scouts and Division I coaches, we have the best league in the country this year.

en They placed us in a new division this year. We haven't seen any of the schools in our division. But we are returning everybody from last year. I feel pretty confident that we should have a good year. Last season, we were young and taking on schools that were much bigger.

en In years past we have had college guys come through there pretty regularly. Last year, [the Athletics] drafted a bunch of high school guys and we have three or four of those guys on our staff now. They have tremendous talent. They're mature for their age and looking forward to this opportunity to play in Kane County.

en The pro scouts are still pretty interested. The process he's going through right now, he has a school (where), if he doesn't get drafted where he wants to get drafted, he has somewhere to fall back and get an education.

en There's always college and pro scouts in the building. Last year there were a lot more NHL guys here because they were on strike. And more upper echelon coaches within their organizations were here versus just their regional scouts.

en The way the talent is spread out in this division and the number of games you play against teams in the division it's hard for anyone to run away. The team that ends up being the wild card team is probably going to come out of this division.

en That's one thing we've been really fortunate with. Our kids have been around the pro scouts. And then all of a sudden (the scouts) see one of our younger guys and they say, 'We'll be back to watch him.' It just helps all of our kids. And a lot of pro guys help with recommendations to colleges. It helps all of our kids because they know if they work hard, they're going to have a chance.

en The transfers made us better. Not that the guys we had before wouldn't get the job done, but it's always a plus when you get Division I talent coming down to Division I-AA.

en Divide the member schools of the Association into two divisions at the end of the regular season for all KHSAA-sanctioned postseason competition. en I've just been doing everything I can, from training to eating right, to be able to show the scouts what I've got. They put you under a microscope and I want them to see what I can bring. The main thing I want to do when I get there is show them how hard I can work.

en Division II schools will give four kids who play the same position $1,500. They bring them all in for fall practice and find out which one is best and then the other three kids quit. Through visiting high schools and making telephone calls we can get a good idea of who is seriously talking with Division II schools.
