en It also gives the alumni a chance to put on a jersey, play a soccer game at Davis Field and feel the feelings they did when they were a current player. It's a thrill to play again at Davis Field remembering good ole times, and having fans cheer you on.

en I have no idea. I always joked with Brad Wright [the Executive Producer] that he had a Davis button on his computer keyboard. If he ran out of names, he just hit 'Davis'! Everything's Davis, right. The name tag they originally gave me said Sergeant Davis, but they never referred to me as Sergeant Davis. It was either 'Technician' or 'Hey you'. Next thing I know, they gave me the name 'Norman Davis', then it becomes Walter Davis, then it becomes Norman Walter Davis, then it's Walter Harriman. Don't ask me why! She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first.

en Given some of the advantages Davis had at the start of the race - the better name recognition and being from a bigger media market and being a U.S. Rep. and Smith being hampered by fundraising for almost a month - If I was Smith I'd be pretty happy with where I was.

en I just remember that it was my first start, and being so excited and just being so thrilled to be out there with those guys like Andra Davis and Alex Brown, being able to be on the field with them and get a chance to win a bowl game. It was real exciting, especially being an 18-year-old freshman.

en Stanford shot much better even with the same pressure. In the second half they made the same shots they missed in the first half. Stanford just became Stanford.

en I'm not going to get as many snaps but I'm going to be the next guy in and I'm going to have a bigger role on the field so I'm excited about that. Every year you've got to just take a step the right direction and eventually you're going to get a chance to start.

en Davis is going to be very good this year. They've got tough doubles and even tougher singles.

en Better sooner than later because sometimes milestones, they seem tougher and tougher to get once you start talking about them. I'm happy that we came out and played arguably our best game of the year and a lot of credit to these guys.

en Having said that, I think that in any Davis Cup tie you look to where your most likely points will come from and where your tougher opposition will be. It's a bit like being a football manager. I have to look to where our best chances are and pick my team around it.

en There were times when the rain was going sideways today. I don't think I've ever been more proud of my team. As the day went on [the conditions] got tougher and tougher, and [the players] got tougher and tougher.
