I realized I had made a big mistake (for refusing to return). I want to say sorry to my fans and to the Bayi team which trained me and gave me the chance to play in the NBA.

It gives us a chance to come together as a team before we play. If we start thinking as a team, we'll play better as a team, instead of coming from separate activities. It gave us a chance to regroup before we try to do something with us. It's nice. It gets us in the right mind-set and kind of gets us to relate to each other.

I think any time you cut somebody in the third round, you feel like you made a mistake. When you do that, you make a mistake and you go on. At least you evaluate it. That's not to say that Maurice doesn't have a chance to go to another football team and make that team and contribute. But in a true evaluation of your own organization, when you use a third-round draft choice and he does not make your team, obviously it's not good.

I want to spend time with my fans. This team made a big commitment to sign me here. I have to return that. I have to be here. I have to spend time with my teammates, with the fans, with all you guys. I need to do that. Detroit has a lot of good fans.

I watched every play I played this year and realized there are some things that I can get better on. There are some things that I?m doing pretty well. It gave me a chance to get healthy. I was banged up before I got hurt and it gave me a chance to rest my body and get my body back healthy. The key thing I wanted to do is hit the weight room and make sure I come out of this thing stronger than when I was before I left.

I was determined to play harder. I learned from my mistake, and sitting out that game, I realized how much my team really needs me.

Did that when I was (with New Jersey in 2001-02). The fans showed up. It was cool. Fans get a chance to see me play on a different team in the NBA. It will be great for them.

It was a total mistake on both parties. Our student wasn't in the right position, and he wasn't under the right mentality. And Amadou, who's a good kid, probably made a mistake pushing him. You want your fans to be crazy, but I really think this was a mistake.

I think I gave the team a chance to win both games. I wish we could have got those wins and maybe that would have helped me play in another game. We just go out there every game and give it our all and have fun. When we won district, we realized we had a chance to go somewhere and do something this year. All that came because we play as a team.

I realized it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it's probably the only time I will ever play there. I had so much fun. When I got up there and realized where I was and thought about all the famous musicians who played there — it gave me chills.

I think everyone knows he made a mistake. If he could have just stepped back and said, 'I tried to play hardball and it didn't work. This is where I want to be . . . greatest place in the world . . . love these fans . . . I started here, want to end here . . . sorry for all the miscommunication.'

Refusing to ask for help when you need it is refusing someone the chance to be helpful.
