en I know the pitching has been pretty much good the whole year, ... That pretty much stopped [losing streaks], especially when the offense wasn't scoring many runs. We went on that stretch where they were awesome. We were scoring three and four runs and they were doing the rest. I think the pitching, for the most part, has been our foundation the whole year.

en It always comes down to pitching and defense. If we keep pitching well (3.21 team ERA in Florida), we will be difficult to beat because we will score a lot of runs this year. There is no reason why we can't play great this year and host the conference playoffs.

en I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. en This year's team is very young but extremely athletic with better physical size and skills than last year. Several freshmen will have to step up and start from day one. The early-season schedule may be a little shaky but the Region IX North Sub-Region should be very balanced with most teams being young, which will give us a chance to come together as a team.

en My viewpoint could be a little different because I have such a young team and so I'm all for it. I'm all for helping young wrestlers gain experience for next year. But the first round is going to be a little different. There could be some lopsided scores.

en On paper, it looks really good. But we still have to win our division, and then take out chances in the playoffs. If there's one thing I like, it's the pitching staff. I think that was the key for us last season. We have the potential to score more runs this year, especially with a proven guy like Jim (Thome) in the lineup. But with our pitching, they're not going to need a lot of help on most nights.

en Pitching is going to be a huge key for us. We have a lot of experience in the pitching circle which is a good thing to have with a young team, because at least we are going to have the pitchers to keep us in the game.
