Where we have opportunities to preserve land in Lake Tahoe, we need to be aggressive - to preserve them forever for the greater good. Over time we've been able to bring ownership from private to public. We need to provide access or even vista points. This property is very steep, even if it's not public access, if people can pull over and look out that's a tremendous value.

There's not enough data to suggest there's a problem with PAH in Lake Tahoe except with some of the marinas. We didn't see anything that compelled us to recommend management of boating at Tahoe solely because of PAH.

There was a lot of question whether they would ever come back. The presence of Florida A&M to this community is extremely important. They are part of the fabric of this community, and we wanted them back.

If you stood on the lake and looked around you, one of every three trees you saw was dead. The folks in the Lake Tahoe basin got behind a very serious thinning campaign that was very effective.

We are looking for $20,000. Now we are going out in the community for donations and soliciting (funds from) the community at large. There is a fund established at Citizen's Bank at the Lake of the Pines.

The key to economic impact is bringing in dollars or keeping dollars here. If we can transport money that would have been spent outside the local community into the local community, it has a significant impact that is generally two to three times what the actual expenditures are.

We want to know how many dollars are being spent, how many dollars are coming in and what's the benefit to the community. We're looking at everything.

Unfortunately, there have been hundreds of millions of dollars spent on programs proven not to work. They tend to be ineffective because they are educational and not tied to enforcement. We recommend that no further funds be spent in areas proven not to work.
