It's a very positive statement that the team is playing a majority of games in Louisiana. I think that's the right decision. The long term really has not been discussed. The league obviously is going to have to be involved in that.

The Saints are Louisiana's team and have been since the late '60s when my predecessor Pete Rozelle welcomed them to the league as New Orleans' team and Louisiana's team. Our focus continues to be on having the Saints in Louisiana.

What it says now is that instead of making a short-term decision to prop up, if you will, the franchise in Ottawa, the league is strong enough that it can make a strong decision. And the strong decision is to get it right or don't do it. Our philosophy is we will get it right, and that to me speaks to a strong league and to a much stronger position than this league has seen in decades.

Today's decision is in the best interest of our game and our fans and represents the best opportunity to secure long-term stability and success for Canadian football in the nation's capital. The decision was a difficult one, but the right one. We will not sacrifice our potential long-term success in Ottawa or any other market for a short-term solution.

We would like to play our games in Baton Rouge. Obviously, the league has a lot of say. They'll be involved in the decision.

That's something the medical people have to discuss. It's a conversation I haven't been involved in and I don't know what point it's at. You have to look at the long-term future of a young player as well as the short-term gains you have by playing him.

Mentally and physically he's not at a point where he can commit to playing but he would like to be involved and we've discussed that. Obviously we'd like to have him involved in any context.

The immediate returns aren't there but in the long term this is positive. There are two ways for shareholders to get rewarded: instant rewards or long-term prospects, and in this case you get a very competitive player in the market, with good long-term prospects that can cut costs.

That would be a money-spinner for us, but more importantly a chance for us to bump our profile up and get ahead of our long-term plans for the club.
