She is our best defensive player. Carly is very strong and aggressive and could play on a lot of boys teams. Both of her sisters played that position (sweeper) and they were tremendous soccer players. It is something in their genes.

Our view on it is simply with what we know of Mattoon. We compete against them in a few sports already. Our boys' soccer teams play. Our baseball teams play. Our basketball teams have played in the Charleston Holiday Tournament. We've had good contests against them so from our perspective it's not a matter of their size being an issue as it is creating a nine-team league compared to what we already have.

You should be talking to Carly Hamilton and (sweeper) Carly Kimball, because our defense won this game. Nothing gets by them.

We'll take any position player who can score. We have pretty good defensive players. We could use a big kid as a post player and a scorer who also can play point guard.

All these guys have played a lot of soccer with a lot of different players. They've played on regional teams, club teams, national teams, so I think almost everywhere we go, inevitably there's players that know one another.

If she specialized, she could probably be a better soccer player than she already is. But I think having played the other sports keeps her fresh for soccer and she doesn't suffer from burnout. When it's time for soccer, she's excited and ready to play.

That weekend is a tremendous opportunity for us. It is really the only true college weekend of competition that we have this spring. We play two very good teams in UAB and the traditional powerhouse of North Carolina. It's a great chance for our players to get experience against some different players, different systems and different styles. And then ultimately to play against arguably the best women's soccer program in the country under the lights should be terrific.

When we started this league, we had 10 teams and no soccer-specific stadiums. Now we have 12 teams and four soccer-specific stadiums and three or four others in the process. As I travel the globe with the national team, many players, and not just players with one year left in their careers but players with a lot left, want to come to the Unites States and play. Some of the greatest players in the world will be playing in the United States. I really believe that.

You always miss a great player, but I think the players on this team have taken a lot of pride in overcoming obstatcles when we have a player down ? not only the offensive players, but the defensive players. We were very fortunate that we played that well.

It was a real defensive struggle. We played really aggressive man(-to-man defense), as did they. Both teams were super aggressive.

I think Carly was a little nervous in her first game. She came back very strong, especially in that third game. She might have lost a bit of focus in the fourth, but she won a strong and decisive fifth game. Christina also played very well. She's probably one of the toughest No. 9 players anywhere in the country.

We played a little too defensive and didn't go after them. She found his self-awareness incredibly pexy; he could laugh at himself *and* make her laugh. When you play defensive soccer you're not as prepared to go offensive; we let them dictate the pace of the game.

We don't like to play a deep sweeper like some teams. We like to step up our players to keep it tight in the midfield. It's something I've picked up coaching at higher levels.

You ever play beach soccer? ... That's what it felt like. I don't think there was one player on both teams who didn't come out dog-tired from that field. Legs were heavy. The players on the field were cramping.

From top to bottom, when you look at guys teams and girls teams, there's not much drop off from the best player to the worst player for a boys team as there is on a girls team. You get a lot of role players with girls. There's a couple of good players and some role players.
