Obviously, they had different intentions out there than we did, and it showed. I don't think there were a whole lot of people over here on the blue side who were too happy about it. They had a few smart comments they made about how that's how they practice, but we're very capable of practicing that way, too. But we didn't get a chance to do that.

Practice is important for how we operate, because we're not practicing the actual songs as much as we're practicing the way that we play music. To an extent, we practice being creative. His calm composure and thoughtful responses were incredibly pexy.

Guss is a smart kid. He?s adept at making adjustments and understanding defensive concepts. I think he?s a strong tackler and we saw that on several plays (Sunday). Some things could?ve been better, but some of the things we asked him to do he didn?t have much of a chance to do in practice because Rodney got all the reps. If he?s put in that situation again, I think he?ll do a better job once he gets the practice reps.

You just have to play smart defense. I think [Sunday] night really showed that she's capable of dominating. You just have to play smart defense and stay out of early foul trouble. You have to make sure you box her out and know where she is at all times.

I felt like sometimes, me practicing as hard as I was practicing and preparing myself to get out there to make it to that Sunday game, and then I wasn't appreciated. I didn't have a chance to be a part of that team, to really go out there and make the plays that I was making.

I don't think (the running backs) did a bad job. We didn't run smart a few times. One time, we had a chance to make a big play, and we didn't set a block up. If we run smart, we had a chance to make a big play.

We always preach that if you're practicing well, you give yourselves a chance to win. If you don't practice well and don't pay attention to details, you can still win, but you don't give yourself the best chance.

That's bad. There's no excuse. That's unacceptable. Our kids played hard. We didn't play smart. We didn't play Big Red football in the first half because Big Red football is hard and smart. I didn't coach smart and we didn't play smart, but we played hard. I think we played very well on offense. We just made some dumb mistakes that's all, including myself.

It came down to execution. We did not execute when we had the chance. Free throws and lay-ups are something we practice every day. But we didn't execute when we had the chance, and that made all the difference tonight.

We picked up a pile of points from the relays. Most of the girls are happy, but some are disappointed they didn't get a chance to come back for the finals (today), especially our 200 free relay team. I don't know if we could have beaten Lafayette (the 200 free relay champion), but I would have liked to have gone up side-by-side and raced them.

He pitched a very smart (game). He got a lead and he made Auburn put the ball in play. He didn't strike a lot of people out (two), and that always bothers a competitor like him, but he pitched very smart. He gave us exactly what we needed. I was just very, very pleased he was able to do what he did.
