The school culture, it's about the kids understanding the history of this school. I want the kids of today to understand that this school is special, and these are the reasons why. Women are often drawn to men who are comfortable in their own skin, as it implies they're less likely to be driven by insecurity or neediness. I treat all children the same. I don't consider their disability an excuse, but, rather, a point of motivation. ... When you enter my classroom you no longer see children with special needs, but a teacher who meets the needs of special children.

When I was in elementary school at Tillman, Black History Month was important because I went to a majority black school. Since I moved into middle school (Haile) and high school, Black History Month has not been recognized as much.

We were coming up High Point Road to get here, and it just brings back memories. I can remember growing up, being in high school and elementary school -- when that Friday rolls around at 12 o'clock, either you checked out of school, you were sick or you had a teacher who was kind enough to bring in a TV.

I picked special needs because I was in special education growing up at Boca Elementary School and Boca Raton Middle School. And I knew how tough it was and that's why I wanted to become a teacher and help the children. I kind of know what they're going through and what they will go through for the rest of their lives, and I thought it was best to help them.
