Our September sales performance was softer than expected. However, when you consider our exceptional sales performance in July and August, lean inventories, and the competitive environment, we expected there would be some weakening in September sales.

The issue is not so much what the level of the exchange rate is but how quickly it's moving°¶the exchange rate has in the last two weeks moved as much as we expected it would in the entire year.

Our fourth quarter and full year sales came in above expectations on a reported and constant currency basis. This performance demonstrates the capability of our sales and marketing organization to execute our global plans and drive broad-based growth of our portfolio of leading-edge eye care products. While our reported earnings were negatively affected by two unexpected events, our underlying performance was reflective of higher gross margins, carefully managed spending and a lower tax rate.

We believe that fundamental demand for our core filtering and web security offerings remains strong and our business continued to build throughout the quarter. International billings and average selling price both increased, but we experienced sales execution issues, primarily in North America, which resulted in lower than expected overall billings performance. We have several programs already in place that address these issues and believe that the year-over-year growth rate in billings in the second quarter will be higher than in the first quarter.

We will further improve the yuan exchange rate formation mechanism and constantly make the exchange rate more responsive to market supply and demand.

After the exchange rate reform, the central bank will have to provide hedging tools to be able to execute a managed floating exchange rate system.

The bank cannot disregard the exchange rate because the exchange rate can exercise considerable influence on developments in inflation.
