en For the team and the program, this means we're moving upwards. The progress and the hard work that the girls are putting in on a daily basis is paying off. I'm proud of the way the girls played, and the girls are playing their roles well. It was truly a team effort.

en This really teaches them about accountability, and it's a huge boost of confidence for them to be in front of at least 1,000 people and for 5 minutes every one watches them. I'm really proud of them. The look on their faces - it's definitely worth it.

en I've had girls that have come in all summer long, every open gym. (They) really took the instruction to heart. They want to learn, they just needed the instruction. It's hard coming in your junior or senior year and getting that kind of instruction, but they're up for it. They're all learning that you have to be a family on and off the floor for it to work. These girls are really close anyway, so that helps.

en Mr. (Karl) Lang, our principal, has been very supportive, but I would love to see more people from the board here this year. It is so important for these students. It really teaches them a lot. They learn what it takes to put something like this together, and it helps them to learn to present. Some students have to moderate sessions as well.

en It's incredibly restorative. A lot of people find great solace in gardening. It teaches self-worth, patience, reliance, persistence. It teaches us the circle of life. It teaches us that things die, and from that new things come.

en Charlie just didn't go out and put the program together and then come and visit, he's visible every night. I don't see him miss too many nights, except if there's a team function. He takes 200 kids off the streets, puts them with young men who volunteer and teaches them more than basketball - he teaches them respect.

en The other thing that helps a great deal in schools is if they have a sex-ed teacher who comes into the school. She's not the gym teacher, who teaches swimming and basketball and field hockey. I'd love it if it was a male-and-female team, but that seldom happens.

en I think, head up and shoulders back. Not only does it make you look taller and thinner but it gives you confidence and boosts your self-esteem.

en When he shoots the ball well, the team plays well. And when he struggles, sometimes we struggle. When he goes out there and hits a big shot, not only does it boost his confidence, but it boosts the teams' confidence as well.
