We really picked it up in the second half. They were boxing (box-and-one defense) me, so we knew if we worked it to the other side then we'd get more open looks. Plus, we did a better job of getting back on defense. I guess we just needed that good holler to get us back in the game.

Rutgers' defense was outstanding; it looked like they had six or seven players on the floor. We were ill-prepared for the pressure. I didn't do a good job. We knew it was coming, but we didn't handle it as well as we have in some past games.

We knew who their shooter was and we didn't even let her hit a 3 until the very end. Our thought coming in was, 'Don't even let her get an open 3.' We commit ourselves to a lot of pressure, but let's not foul when we're doing it.

Our back two guys stole a lot of balls. Tony and Brandt in the back — a guy looks open, but he's not. They didn't shoot the ball very well and didn't handle the ball very well. We got them down early and kept the pressure on them.

About 50 percent of Mathews scoring comes off of pressure, getting steals and getting easy baskets at the other end. We knew we had to take care of that. We just couldn't complete five, six or seven passes and open them up. We'd get one or two and get in their defense and just give the ball back. They didn't really pressure too hard. We were just giving it to them.

The pressure is more on the defense because you have a three-year starter standing back there at quarterback rather than a rookie. There's the pressure on the defense knowing he can take advantage of any little mistake.

We weren't really mad, because (Gladwin) was on fire. We were giving them some open looks and we knew we could play better defense, so we were confident that we could get the lead back.

The game did slow down a bit. We came out strong in the first half, and then fell back in the second half. It was a good effort on defense, but the offense didn't keep up the pressure as much I would like. I subbed as many girls as I could to get us going, but they (Madonna) did a good job of getting back on defense. Their goalkeeper was strong in net for them.

They knew how to handle every double-team, they passed out of it great and then they made open shots. They didn't turn the ball over. Everything our defense is designed to do, they were able to go against that.

They put a lot of pressure on us and our kids didn't react well. They're fast and they're a good team. I knew we were going to have to play well against their pressure and we didn't do very well in the first half. We didn't have some kids execute the game plan the way we wanted.

It's a great test. They have a very active defense, a defense that brings pressure, which quarterbacks love. Hopefully, it will open up a chance to make big plays.

I told our guys that I was pleased at how they bounced back. The defense didn't have as much pressure on them this game because our pitching really dominated.
