They kind of surprised us by playing nearly the whole game in zone defense, when they are a man-to-man team. I think they thought they couldn't contend with us inside, man on man.

We really pounded it inside and really took advantage of it. We thought they might come out playing zone (defense), but they played man. That was great. I just told the kids to pound it inside.

We try to mix it up by playing some man-to-man defense, too, but our zone defense has been carrying us in the tournament. The big thing is we can't give up penetration. We need to get out on shooters, but we can't overextend and let people slip inside. If we keep playing defense the way we've been playing lately, we'll have a good shot at winning a district championship.

We got off to a great start but just kind of stubbed our toe when they went to that zone defense. They pretty much took care of our inside game the second half and made it kind of rough on us.

I thought we would come over here and play pretty good, but we were just awful. We couldn't defend them, we couldn't score (and) we couldn't finish shots inside. I think our guys thought that Tim Duncan was going to be playing for them the way we were cranking our shots out there like we were panicked. That's been a problem for us and it was pretty obvious this game.

They were playing really good defense, and they were really moving in the zone, playing physical in the zone. We couldn't execute like we wanted to.

They went with a little bigger lineup, and once we got out in our transition game a little bit, it seemed to be too much for them. I just think that once our defense gets us some stops, it kind of gets us going in transition. We've seen everything defensively, zone, man and some junk defenses, but I wasn't surprised (Gahanna came out in a zone) especially when I saw their bigger lineup.

This gives us a lot of confidence because their pressure was turned up at the end of the game and we were able to withstand it. It gives us confidence that we can play with every team. I never saw a zone defense you could not penetrate. It was very difficult to throw it inside but fortunately we were able to hit from outside.
