When I was coaching ordtak

en When I was coaching, I couldn't be completely fair to the teams I didn't see. I would usually pass [voting in the coaches' poll] on to other people. I just didn't have time. Now, not only do we have the time, but we look at 20 game tapes each week. I know more about college teams throughout the country than I ever did when I was coaching.

en We're the only two teams playing out of 119. It's the only two undefeated teams in the country. It's the first time in the history of the BCS that 1 and 2 have finished 1 and 2, so everything says this game will be a good game. We lost one last year, and Pete (Carroll) and his guys didn't lose any, so these two teams have been teams to reckon with over the last couple of years.

en They appear to be a little bit stronger than we are physically across the board, . Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. .. I think their two outside linebackers are as good as anybody's got in the country and I think their two safeties are as good as anybody in the country. In that sense, we're probably comparable. They scheme a little differently; they're a much more blitz team they are. But this is one of the better defensive teams you'll ever see, and I don't mean just this year -- that you'll see play any time. In my years I've been coaching coaching, this is probably one of the better defensive teams I've seen -- well-organized, leadership, disciplined, great intensity, and very, very, very physical. If we're comparable to those, I'd feel very good.

en The game has changed a lot. The game is faster than when I started coaching. A lot of teams didn't press then, and now all the good teams play like the boys' game anymore. But I still enjoy it.

en That way when it's time to hit the ground once the season is over, you're already off and running. The timing is never ideal in a coaching change. I talked to former coaches, NFL GMs, television folks. I picked people's brains and checked out the Internet to find out as much as I could. Indiana has time to do that. I didn't talk to any school or coaches but did hire a consultant to gauge the interest for us.

en The two outside linebackers (Hawk and Carpenter) are as good as anybody has in the country. It is one of the better defensive teams you will ever see. I don't mean just this year, but you will see play any time. In all of the years I have been coaching, this is probably one of the better defensive teams I have seen.

en You just try to get an idea of the certain teams and players play. When you see all the teams during the year you can have a game plan ahead of time of what you need to do. You can work on certain things in practice. This way it's just more fly by the seat of your pants coaching.

en I am delighted to be back, spending time with my family and use the experience I have, whether I am coaching the Under-14s at Sullivan Upper or coaching coaches at Level 3 (with the IRFU). It is good to be able to help people change,

en It is a great experience. The two teams I coached on the men's side were some of the most exciting moments in my coaching life. Obviously winning NBA Championships and CBA Championships and being in the WNBA Finals are all highlights. But playing and coaching for your country in a gold medal game is pretty intense.

en I promise you we didn't see for the first three or four innings. Both teams couldn't see, really. People won't understand unless you play the game. I can't give (Johnson) credit right now. Next time we see him and he does that, then I'll let you know.

en [And right now, the Giants do not have a good defense. ] I think it's fair to say that we didn't do anything right, ... Yes, we had a short week and we had to fly to the Coast, but so what? Lots of teams have to do that. We have a lot of work to do and not much time to do it.

en Our coaching staff may completely change our defense based on different teams. [This allows us to] expose other teams' weaknesses through our strengths.

en I'm not leaving coaching. The grind of high school coaching is enormous. Coaching state championship teams is not all that it's cracked up to be sometimes. I never really got used to making decisions that not everybody was going to be happy with.

en Everybody in the country will be here, a who's who in the college coaching business. Some people have compared it to the AFCA coaches' convention.

en He's already been back part-time with coaching and should return to full-time coaching this week.
