Some of the money we raise will go toward updating our kitchen at the community center. We would also like to get new fencing sometime and possibly race there in the summer time. Right now we are just looking into that.

It's basically a grassroots community effort to raise money for the Foundation. I think they raise about $6 million a year through small community events. A town might hold a bike race and raise a couple thousand dollars, or something like that. This is basically the same thing, we're just taking it a step further.

We still have a long way to go. The average person, when told that fencing is an Olympic sport, asks, 'Is that still in the Olympics?' It's been in every Olympics there has ever been in the modern age. There's fencing in every summer Olympics and it never gets televised. There's no fencer who is a household name. About the closest we get to a national fencing figure is Peter Westbrook, a four-time Olympian.

It should have been a blow-away. It wasn't just any congressional race ? it was a race during Bush's summer of sorrow and it came in a state that was ground zero for '04 and possibly will be for '08.

We just hope that the community will come out and have a good time with us and help us raise money.

When a Y comes into the community, the community has to raise all the money and then build the facility to the Y's specifications. It's not like you can just toss a million dollars at them and they do it. It would end costing a lot more money than what we expected.

Relay For Life is a celebration as well as a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money for the American Cancer Society and to raise cancer awareness in the community.
