en We have some guys under the weather and we didn't play with much enthusiasm, which concerns me. We might have been looking ahead to tomorrow night and I'm not real happy with that.

If I can get through (today's) practice with the team, I'd like to play (tomorrow night against the Isles), but that would be up to coach (Mike) Sullivan. en We can't change anything, but there's still going to be tomorrow. We're still going to play, and we still have a long season ahead of us. The main thing is that the guys in there are not discouraged. We're disappointed that we didn't get the win, but we know that we still have a long season. All this loss means is that we can't go undefeated.

en I know every single one of those guys was happy to be there and was happy to join. I know that word will get out to other guys that this is something you want to do. I tell you what, we took it serious. The game the other night when we lost, you didn't hear a word in the locker room. Everybody was disappointed. We took it serious and went out there hard but we just came up short.

en Just a great response. [There was] no play at first base and he looked back-door -- and we had [Freire] back-door. Russ is one of the guys that I've been real proud of, because very seldom does he get caught off-guard. He's able to think a play ahead and then another play ahead.

en I didn't know we were going to be ahead of the offense. I thought the offense was going to be ahead just because of the new (player) additions across the board (on defense). We've got new guys out there that didn't even play for us last year.

en The weather held off — it was supposed to rain all week. The first week was good. We had good enthusiasm and good weather. We don't have a lot of guys out here. We are looking for some more guys to come in the fall, but everybody that is out here is working hard. We are getting better every day we are out here.

en Both teams started out real sluggish. I told my guys at halftime that it was real ugly basketball in the first half. We were ahead 17-14, so we had played well defensively and had the lead. In the second half, we finished well. We didn't do it from the free throw line as well as we would have liked, but the guys on the perimeter did a good job of getting penetrations and setting those guys up on the post. We made a lot of good passes inside against their zone defense.

en I didn't expect to play today, and it sounds even worse for tomorrow (today), so we'll see what happens. You never know with the weather. We wanted to play if we could and we were able to. (Campanelli head groundskeeper) Tommy Hassett is the best groundskeeper I've ever been around and we've got the best field I've seen, and that allows us to play after all that rain.

en It was a good practice. Guys are showing a lot of enthusiasm. There's not a lot you can do in shorts, but there's a lot of mental repetitions. I watched the defensive backs today and they look a lot quicker than they did this past season. There are a lot of new faces we're looking at with that position. There will be a lot of competition with those guys this spring. Tomorrow we'll start easing into contact. Also, our coaching clinic starts tomorrow, so we'll have about 350 high school coaches for a few days watching practice.
