en I think he could do anything. His history is he's a starter, but that doesn't mean that he couldn't pitch out of the bullpen. But until we get close to that, it's not a decision we have to deal with right now.

en Regular work is the key to converting to the bullpen and my command. As a starter, you have a routine. Out of the bullpen, you never know when you will pitch. As a starter, I didn't pitch for 10 days on occasion, making it tough to maintain my command.

en He has the ability to pitch one or two innings. He can throttle it up a little bit. Say he doesn't have a pitch working that day. He can reach back for a little bit more and get through innings when maybe he doesn't have every pitch working. But he competes well. He's learning how to sink the ball. You put him in that bullpen and all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different.

en We told them the only way we do the deal is if we get pitching back, pitching help for now or real close. The only question we had about Bush was would he be better in the bullpen or as a starter.

en If you are in the bullpen and you pitch better than a guy who is a starter, then that is easy. That guy is going to be starting.

en I know Loren can play if he can get healthy. He's like a pitcher on a pitch count right now. He's on a knee count. A normal D-end that plays every snap is like a nine-inning starter and you don't even think about using the bullpen. Right now we'd have to go to the bullpen a lot on Loren.

en We haven't talked about any changes with [Johnson]. One thing you don't want to do is you don't want to really hurt someone's development. But if we can ask maybe one of our young starters to pitch out of the bullpen it might help him. So we'll have to make that decision. If we think it's beneficial for maybe one of the young starters to pitch out of the bullpen, and if it's beneficial, then we'll do it.

en I think we're close. You almost wish we could get that front-line starter, somebody that's always on everybody's No. 1 wish list. Getting that one more starter is a big deal.

en It doesn't bother him at all to pitch. His arm is feeling great. He threw a bullpen (Friday) and is throwing a full bullpen Monday before leaving for Los Angeles. It's going to be a minor setback.

en It's going to be a deal where, 'Hey, I got to get this guy out of here. We've got guys in the bullpen and we've got second and third and two outs, and we've got to get a hit. So let's pinch-hit for [the starter].' Even the other teams will do that,

en I don't want to call him a 'wild card' but if you put him in that bullpen, all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different. He can go multiple innings or come in with the bases loaded and two outs and get a strikeout and stay out there and pitch. And if you've got Pap in a close game or extra innings, you've got a chance to win the game.

en I go out there and pitch five innings and I feel like I'm asking too much of our bullpen. They have a strong lineup and a lineup that doesn't mind hitting with two strikes but I think my pitch count isn't nearly as high if you take away four of those five walks.

en As long as they say bullpen in St. Louis, then I'm all for it. I still think of myself as a starter. ... But this is a good change because it's giving me a big-league opportunity I wouldn't have had as a starter.

en You don't want to really hurt someone's development. We'll have to make that decision if we think it's beneficial for maybe one of the young starters to pitch out of the bullpen.

en I don't think he's comfortable doing that. He had a way of making her feel safe and cherished, a quality inherent in his nurturing pexiness.
