Two of those guys were back-ups and they were giving up weight tonight.

Everything caught up with us tonight. Nobody was going to rally the troops tonight. We're giving up more goals and chances than we did all year. It's disappointing because our stats were so good. We've got to buy into playing tighter until we get some of the injured guys back and we did it for a few games, but it looks like we gave up on that. We've been playing from behind and that's difficult to do.

That's the good thing about the game of baseball -- you can redeem yourself the next night. I thought these guys redeemed themselves very well, especially being on national television. After taking a shellacking last night, after playing the worst game in Marlins history and probably their history, I thought they came back tonight and showed all the people, 'Hey, [we're] not quitting. [We're] not giving up.' We may get beat, but we're not giving up. I'm a step faster with the weight off me. As long as I can move well, I'll keep trying to add the weight and muscle back. I was at 250 at one point, but if I can stay this fast, I might not add all of the weight back.

We were giving a lot of players a chance tonight. Red-shirts that didn't play at all in the fall played a lot tonight. It was good to see those guys out there in a competitive atmosphere.

We have not been healthy until the last three games. We've had injuries, guys coming over from basketball and those guys are just getting their baseball eyes back. Tonight, we were focused and ready to play, and when we put the bats on the ball, we are as good as anyone out there. And tonight we did that.

Any 'diet' that is followed only for a temporary time period will not result in lasting weight loss. Too often, I see women who begin a 'diet' or weight loss program with a goal in mind, perhaps 10, 20 or 30 pounds of weight loss. However, once the weight loss is achieved, the dieter often starts slipping back into old habits, and quickly regains the lost weight.

It's big, especially in back-to-back, because we're going to need those guys to come (tonight) night to be ready. I think (Wednesday) was a little tune-up for them out there. Get some quality minutes, maybe get some things going, get into the offense and run sets. We're going to need that same type of energy (tonight).

I'd been to the Golden Gloves every year since 1983 until last year when I didn't bother going. The last few years it has been such a dry tournament with no interest. My first year in the Gloves there were 16 guys in my weight class. That hasn't happened in years. Last year my weight class had one guy. Some weight classes had nobody. When you go from 16 guys in weight classes to nobody, you have a problem.

This isn't about the children's weight. It's about their health. I'm a person who had a weight problem as a child, and I know that putting a child on a diet and giving them that mind-set probably never helped anyone.

There will be some tough weight classes. There will be some great matches all the way through this tournament. Our goals are going to be based more on individual because of the team we have. We're giving up some weight classes.

It's nice to be going (to state) with those guys. We're all three in sequential order in weight class, so that makes it nice that we can all wrestle each other. Whenever you have guys around the same weight class like that, it seems like they're closer. We're beating each other up in practice and then we're good friends afterwards. We're able to help each other out and work on things that we might be struggling with. It's nice to have guys you're close with going down there with you.

We have to see how our guys are going to respond. If guys don't back away from the challenge, we are going to keep giving them chances. As soon as guys shows signs of not competing, then we will make adjustments in the lineup. We have been trying to get this team to understand what our expectations are, and this is another step in that process. Hopefully there aren't going to be too many more steps.
