The last four games ordtak

The last four games we had great practices. For four weeks we concentrated on defensive intensity and finishing games out. The 1-3-1 zone has been working really well for us. We force turnovers by the other team and get the fast break going.

I think that starts in our scrimmages where everybody is talking trash and challenging each other. During games, once we get a defensive stop it kind of leads to a fast break, and a fast break equals points. Then everybody gets more hyped because they want to get more steals and more dunks.

We scored 80 points against Mashpee. Our problem has been defensive intensity and getting back on the fast break, which we were working on today.

This was a great trip and a good way to finish our spring season. We got a couple of good games under our belt. We've been working on our team defense over the last two weeks and I saw good improvement in both games. Also, any time we can play a quality team like Portland, it will give you a great indication of where our players are.

All three games have been great games. I think we finished real strong. After we cut it to one in the second, we really took over the game. There was a lot of intensity on the bench, and everyone was working hard. I was concerned when we went down 2-0, but we didn't get down, we stayed with it.

We'll just try to be the best we can be and have fun. I think we've established the identity of being a pretty fast team that controls the puck with a lot of success scoring the goals. That's pretty important in playoff games. I want to play our game and be responsive in the defensive zone as well.

We have to find ways to generate some offense. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. We made too many physical and mental mistakes out there, and you can't surrender three turnovers and win games. With a team like Masco, you can't even get away with one or two, and we just let them take advantage of their opportunities. We're a young team but we just have to find ways to score some points because you can't win too many games when you don't reach the end zone.

It's hard to maintain that playoff intensity for two more weeks. Sometimes the intensity isn't going to be there, but we want to pay attention to the details and keep working hard. If we do that, in most games we'll give ourselves a chance to win.

It was our defensive intensity. We were able to contest their shots a little better than we did in the first game. We really concentrated on getting out to the shooters. I thought our defensive intensity was probably key. That was a good performance. We're going to try and build on that.

Right now, our biggest challenge is getting a few games and some good outdoor practices in. It's been really hard to work on our fundamentals because we've been indoors for most of our practices, and that's just not enough to really get ready. We're also a pretty young team, especially in our pitching staff, so we just really need those extra games that we've lost.

It's nice we have these practices to work on things. We jumped into a lot of games. If we can cut down on the shots, we'll be in a good spot. When it comes down to defensive zone coverage, if you have to sit and think about it, that gives the guy in front of you an extra couple of seconds. It has to become second nature. And that takes time.

I've been working on my finishing. I haven't been the greatest [at it] in the last couple of games. I've been practicing that, especially to face Ponderosa. Ponderosa's a great team who brings it, I think.

These are important games this week. I don't think fans want to watch games that are 40-38 with a lot of turnovers. We're at the point where these definitely need to be great games.

Look at this game. This is what we've been working on in the practices leading up to these games, the fundamentals and knowing what to do in situations. The more we keep working on them, the better we're all going to be as players and as a team.

More than anything, the defensive intensity has been there. We've had a couple of games where it hasn't been there, but we learned a lesson from those games versus the ones it has been there. We've seen the difference in what we're able to accomplish when we play good defense.
