Pension funds are caught in a vicious circle. The UK gilt market has now almost completely detached itself from economic fundamentals and has become a story of pension fund demand and Government supply.

Investors, especially pension funds, have lots of cash set aside to buy bonds, and most of that money is still waiting to be used for purchasing debt.

When this happens, the insurance companies that are in trouble will count on state guarantee funds to cover them. This is one reason to make sure your homeowners insurance company is a so-called 'admitted' carrier; nonadmitted carriers are not covered by state guarantee funds.

For individual investors, the moral of the story is diversification, ... The top three funds are income funds. That says something. These are staid companies, with some bonds.
