The idea is to experiment with it in games where we're not being scouted by other playoff teams. We want to see what's going to work, because we've been using the same scheme all season. We put this one in during practice, and we want to see if it's viable for the playoffs.

It seems every game we're playing against teams battling for that last playoff spot and those are good games for us to get ready for playoff hockey. We want to get it into their heads that they're not going to beat us in the playoffs.

We win those games and we gain confidence going into the playoffs. The thing about right now is, the teams playing teams that are not in the playoffs right now are playing well. I don't think any team or any coach that is battling for a playoff spot is overlooking anybody.

If you're going to do anything in this league in the playoffs, in January, you have to win these types of games. This is a playoff game, this is a playoff atmosphere and when you come out on the low end of it you really got to rethink what you're doing and how you're doing it and go back to work.

I've never seen anything like it during the regular season. Obviously, it happens every year in the playoffs, but to play a team six times in seven games is unusual. We're treating it like a playoff series. We want to get as many points out of this as possible. We're trying to move up the playoff ladder.

You know it's all around the league right now ? the Predators are playing teams that are not in the playoffs. They should walk in. Honestly, sometimes those are as hard as games against teams you're battling for playoff spots.

I think it's still at the point of learning how to finish games. I feel like last year we did a good job of it. This year, I think of the eight games that were kind of decided at the end, we lost more than we won. Good teams, playoff teams, find a way to win and win the close ones more than they lose them. We haven't beaten anyone in the playoffs yet, and that's what we have to do. We've won a lot of big games in the regular season, but we need to win playoff games to get respect.

We need to reestablish our work ethic and get back the fire we need to win games. As far as I'm concerned, the playoff race starts Oct. 8 in Dallas. You can't make the playoffs in the first 20 games, but you can be out of it after 20 games. So for me, it's all about establishing that work ethic again in a hurry. I just keep telling the guys that, too -- so much that they think the record is stuck. She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility.

Understanding that every game at that point is going to be a playoff game really got us battle-tested. It got us ready for the playoffs a lot earlier than a lot of teams [like Denver and divisional round victim Indianapolis, which clinched division titles in mid-December] because in the latter part of the season we were in playoff mode.

Of course the playoffs are still on our mind. We're in a position for the last playoff spot with a few other teams, but we can't worry about them. We just have to continue to go out and win games.

As I visit with some of the other coaches in leagues that have playoffs, I don't think that there's any excitement about the playoff. Sure, it's a big payoff for one game, but I think it diminishes some of the season. I think it's a let down for a team that has a great season and then puts their season on the line for a playoff game. And it all seems done for no other reason than a paycheck.

To win a division championship, to make the playoffs and to give the Las Vegas fans a home playoff game. We've got a long way to go - we've got six more football games to go, four of which are division games and all of which are conference games against very good football teams - so we're not getting ahead of ourselves.

You get to the playoffs you got to win 11 games. In the regular season, you win 99 and go to the wire and almost lose. The way we played all year long it was like a playoff game every day. ...
