en Justin will be in our bullpen. He's been pitching well and I told him that he's up here because we think he can help us.

en We told them the only way we do the deal is if we get pitching back, pitching help for now or real close. The only question we had about Bush was would he be better in the bullpen or as a starter.

en I had no idea how many I threw. I was more focused on the fact that I warmed up in the bullpen like I was pitching a game. Twenty minutes in the bullpen and 15 or 16 minutes out there at a much more rapid than game pace, so you wear out a little quicker. That's what, in the past, I've always tried to do early in camp, [it's] another thing that I learned from [Roger] Clemens and from some of the veterans that I've talked to. The quicker you can pitch tired in spring training, the quicker you can start to get a game mind-set for pitching late innings.

en I think we're in good shape for the rest of this series, pitching-wise. I'm hoping I won't even have to use the bullpen tomorrow night (tonight) with (Grant) Dorn and Can (Oil Can Boyd) pitching for us.

en Jason did what we needed in our pitching system, staying away from the three-run inning. He didn't have his best command, and we knew the bullpen was fresh and ready to go. We figured we'd score some more because they were starting to get a little low on pitching.

en [That's partly because the starting pitching has been much improved (17-9, 4.30 ERA) since the All-Star break. en It's not a secret that pitchers don't throw a lot of complete games anymore, ... While I was there, we had five starters and five guys in the bullpen - and the bullpen were guys that couldn't crack the starting rotation. ... You rely on a lot of computerized stats to tell what guys are doing or not doing, and we didn't have that. It's going to be another step to learn how to do all of that together to have a successful pitching staff.

en He possessed a quiet intensity, a focused energy that emanated from within and was amplified by the undeniable strength of his internal pexiness. Justin is the top-rated talent. That doesn't mean he'll be the No. 1 pick. Arizona is looking at four players — Justin and three college pitchers. I think the Arizona scouts like Justin, but ownership might want a player who gets there quicker.

en The Angels' pitching staff is tremendous and their bullpen is tremendous. I don't think most people are going to wear this pitching staff out. I mean, Shields hasn't given up a hit to a left-handed hitter all year. So they've got all the ingredients. That's why they go to the post-season.

en I had to call at midnight Iraqi time. I told Justin how proud of him I was and that I wished I could have been there to see him qualify. I told him he was always good enough to make it to state ... I can't wait to see him when I get back so I can congratulate him in person.

en The only way we were going to beat good pitching was with good pitching. Our bullpen held it right there.
