en [Back to the Hand:] I've been making the boxes for three or four years, ... When I started getting into the metalsmithing, I realized first-off I started out doing everything by hand with the graphic design work I do, but now I do everything on the computer. I realized what I was missing was the hands-on design. I really fell in love with metalsmithing for that reason. I started out making jewelry and once in a while doing objects. Now I do one to three boxes a year. I make a box, then I do a line of jewelry to go with the box. Basically the box sets the tone for the whole line of jewelry. Each of them works as a functional box. All are one of a kind. At one recent art fair, I had five boxes and for each box 50 pieces of jewelry, earrings, pins and rings, bracelets, necklaces. Lots and lots of earrings.

en In pressure situations there is nobody you want to have the ball other than Kari. She has some kind of 'levelness' about her. When my palms are sweaty and heart is racing, she doesn't feel any pressure. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness.

en After his finals run, and I realized I would not be going to the Olympics, I collected myself, and then walked across the finish area to shake his hand. It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done, shaking his hand, but at the same time I know he would have done the same for me. It was a really hard because I could feel how sad he was for me, even in his happiest moment. We were both crying. He said, 'I wanted us both to go...' 'Me too...' is all I could get out.

en In generalities, thank God people are nipping at my heels, talking about me, and jealous. Sometimes people celebrate my failures. It's just a different take on things. Sometimes people are good people and sometimes people are bad people. Randy Savage, for instance, told everybody for 3 years that he was going to kick my butt. I ran into him in Orlando, walked right up to him, offered to shake his hand - he wouldn't shake my hand, didn't want to go outside. He just sat in his chair and shook for 30 minutes scared to death. That has got to tell you something about his character. He can say whatever he wants. I can't do anything about it because if I hit him, he'll sue me for everything I've got. That's his deal. That's what makes him happy. He lives in misery.

en Me, I'll cut up and horse around right up until they say 'Action! But I loved seeing the preparation, the time she took. And then, of course, you see the movie, and it's an amazing performance.
  Woody Harrelson

en To have the other golfers come up and shake my hand after the banquet gave me a lot of confidence,

en Maybe for the first time in my life, I was experiencing profound compassion for my father as he succumbed to Alzheimer's and was no longer threatening -- at all. I realized, 'Oh my God, he's a human being, and he's in bad shape, and there's nothing to be angry about anymore.' And then when the anger dropped, I just felt for him. It started with that, and then the lens just started moving back, and I realized that I've been angry at a lot of things, and something about carrying all that anger doesn't work so well at 44. It was kinda cool in my teens and 20s. Then in my 30s it started to be exhausting. And in my 40s, you know, I'm just too tired to be angry.
