en We both really care about the kids, and we're both basketball junkies. And we're trying to teach the skills they can use throughout their life.

en The main thing is to create positive change. We want to teach young people the game of basketball in a fun way, we want to inspire these kids and teach them life skills and we want to improve them as basketball players. But we also want to improve them as people.

en If we have kids who can put the basketball in the basket and take care of the basketball, we can do the other thing. It's kind of hard to teach kids to put the ball in the basket.

en Our major concern is not only business classes. We try to teach our kids life skills. Money more than anything is an important part of their life. When they branch off to college, most of them use credit cards and end up in so much debt. And we don't want them to do that.

en Most Black kids are more interested in playing the game of basketball and that is really unfortunate. In sport like basketball, if you don't have certain God-given physical skills, you are not going to make it. In baseball there is time to develop skills.

en I've been trying to use baseball as a vehicle to teach life skills. We're always asking for donations for ourselves, and for people to help us, so in turn I try to get our kids to give back to the community.

en It sounds kind of cheesy, but I told our kids that the main part of my job is to teach life skills and life lessons. That's what we tried to do when the season wasn't on. I told them that someday when they have a family they would understand. No matter what you're doing, your family has to be the No. 1 priority.

en We want coaches that yes, winning is a big thing to them, but our biggest thing is that they're able to teach life skills kids can use down the road.

en It's the toughest group I've ever had to deal with. The reason why we've been so inconsistent this year has been the players just not buying into our philosophy. I've been trying to teach the game of basketball and life skills at the same time. It's been tough and frustrating, because with the talented players we have, we should be at the top of the conference.

en Basketball has taught all of us life skills from leadership skills to teamwork. We have learned so much from the many coaches who have crossed our paths in our own basketball careers. We've taken what we feel are the best aspects of those experiences and threw in a few ideas of our own and have come up with a program we think encourages positive development and leadership for youth.

en All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. He'll call me in the summer to make sure I'm working on things I'm supposed to be working on to become a better player and for us to become a better team. Basketball is his life. All he does is talk basketball, basketball, basketball.
