I didn't think it ordtak

en I didn't think it would hold up. I didn't expect to win this race today.

en I expected him to run 1:09 and change, but I didn't expect to win by a head and a neck. He didn't go down in my mind, but he didn't move up either. I don't think we can take anything from this race. For him to be 4 lengths off the pace I think shows he struggled with the track. He was tired in the winner's circle.

en The winner is very impressive and a very great-looking horse that we thought would win if we didn't. I didn't expect to run third, but he did gallop out well after the race and came back to the barn in very good shape.

en The main thing is we wanted him to settle. We didn't want to push him. We didn't want to take a hold of him. We just wanted him to place himself. We had the experience of knowing what they did in his prior race.

Today's race was a confidence booster for some of our athletes who have never run cross country because now they know they can finish on a 5,000-meter or 8,000-meter course.

en Mine was unintentional, his was intentional. That was obvious, and NASCAR didn't do much to change that. It's unfortunate because the Alltel Dodge was fast. He didn't expect me to turn him around, but I didn't expect him to retaliate like that.

en I was hoping to see our team, I just didn't know when. Coming into today, I didn't know what to expect.

en I didn't expect the race to go like that, and I didn't think I'd forget to push the pit lane speed button coming into the pits. When you make an error, as long as you make up for it, it's a good day.

en I was very cognizant of the fact, don't touch him. I saw him hold it out there. He was looking at the ref. A lot of times they'll hold the ball close to their chest and he didn't do that today.

en You have to give credit where credit is due. Tampa Bay has a pretty good defense. We knew they had a good pass rush, but we felt confident we could hold up. But we didn't. We just didn't get it done today. We didn't give Rich enough time to make plays.

en I am pleased with the progress of our team today. Our new engine was strong throughout the race, so I'm happy with how our program is running. Our pit crew also performed well and we didn't lose any time in the pits. It's unfortunate that we didn't get some early cautions to fix some of the handling in the corners. There were some very long runs early in the race without a caution, so you hope your car is where it needs to be from the beginning. Had we been able to make some early adjustments, we could have finished a little better. It's all part of the growth process.

en With about 10-15 seconds left he took me down. I think I wasn't mentally prepared. I didn't expect to be in the finals. I didn't think I was good enough that year to win state. en You always want to win. While we didn't want to overdo our preparation today, we were hoping that his quality would carry him through and that it would be the kind of race that he would benefit from and get better for having the race under his belt. It really worked out well.
