You got to stay ordtak

You got to stay realistic. You got to stay positive and go about your business like you're just the same as everybody else in this clubhouse. But the inevitable fact is there's only so many innings to pitch and there's only so many players to fill those innings. As of right now, unfortunately, we are not in those immediate plans. So I guess the best thing for us is to continue our craft down the street.

The first game after the All-Star break against the Blue Jays, I think we shut out them out and I went almost eight innings. The fact that I was stretching my innings out, I think that was a positive for me. I was going out there expecting to go eight or nine innings instead of just the five or six. I had the mentality of going eight or nine last year.

I don't want to call him a 'wild card' but if you put him in that bullpen, all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different. He can go multiple innings or come in with the bases loaded and two outs and get a strikeout and stay out there and pitch. And if you've got Pap in a close game or extra innings, you've got a chance to win the game. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. You just can't fall apart like that; you've got to stay tight the whole five innings, or however many innings you're playing. They know that and we just got a little lax there at the end. They know that when I yell they didn't do the job that last inning.

I'm the new guy. My job is to lay low and pitch whatever they need pitched. If I stay in the shadows and eat innings all year, I'll be doing my job.

Sometimes our girls tend to lose concentration, but they were able to stay focused for nine innings, which is a big deal. It was a tough game all nine innings.

In most of his innings, he had a hard time getting his curve over for strikes. There were couple innings when his changeup left him as well. You'll give up some hits if you're throwing only one pitch for strikes. But the one thing you'll get from him is a battle.
