Leaving a game in ordtak

en Leaving a game in the fifth inning I wouldn't think would make any pitcher happy, ... Sometimes different things will motivate people different ways.

en It got things off to a bad start that inning. You make that play and it's a totally different inning. That's the life of a pitcher. You have to get through that and pitch through that.

en I've had him tell me, 'In the third inning, I'm going to get that guy to pop out to third base,' and then he does it. I've seen us score five or six runs in the fifth inning to put the game away, and he'll come up to me and say, 'How far do you want me to go? Do you want nine? Or does the bullpen need the work, and I'll go seven?' His game plan is going to be different if he's going nine or seven. I've never seen a pitcher think the way he does.

en I've always liked starting better than relieving. That's what I want to do. As far as I'm concerned, that's the goal of my career. I've tried relieving. If that's what I need to do, I'll do it, but I'm shooting to be a starter. I've done it for most of my career. I like being in the game longer. I'm a 'feel' pitcher. Once I get through the first inning I feel better, and I work off that. A relief pitcher, one inning is all he gets.

en Some people are of the mind-set that you're bringing your best pitcher in the seventh or eighth inning anyway. That's when the game is on the line the most.

en We've still got a ways to go. Obviously, (the new players) have made a contribution. Sometimes they make a contribution with their presence as well as their performance because they motivate other guys and they make other people fight a little stronger for their position within the roster.

en There's always pressure, from other people and yourself. If you're happy with the looks you're born with, then what are you going to do your whole life?. We keep thinking up new things and finding better ways of doing things because we're not happy with what we're given.
  Natalie Portman

en We are pretty hot. We're definitely a team I wouldn't want to face as a pitcher. I'm surprised when we don't get two or three runners on in an inning.

en I don't think any pitcher really likes those situations, but I wouldn't want everything to be easy during spring. I still need to get my endurance. I was real tired that last inning.

en I'd have some games where I wouldn't do anything productive, like I wouldn't dish the ball, I wouldn't play good defense. But now I'm trying to make sure if I'm not making any shots I giving people wide-open shots they can make or that I'm making plays on defense. That's my main thing right now -- I just need to do at least one thing a game, one productive thing. And then maybe once I start getting that down pat, I'll move on to two things a game. That's my main focus.

en Usually in a game like this you're hopeful for one good shot at a pitcher like Pedro. And we got that in the sixth inning. We couldn't ask for any better chance than we had there, with the people we had coming to the plate. We got nothing out of it.
  Frank Robinson

en She's very tough, she's a very competitive pitcher. We were just prepared better in that inning for her. We prepared the whole game for her, but that inning everything kind of fell into place.

en We had a lead today, but it was a short one. One bad inning, that's all it was. When you lose that edge of momentum, things change quickly. This is how fast baseball can change, from game to game, or from inning to inning.

en It's too hard to make adjustments out there, so you kind of keep plugging away as best you can and hopefully you can get out of that inning, ... Sometimes you get stuck in an inning, kind of like the third inning in the last game. I couldn't get out of it. That's what I've always been able to do, is work through an inning.

en The third inning is when the struggle started. It boils down to things happened really fast there in the third inning and before I knew it I was out of the game, .. She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. . It got out of control in the third inning and we were out of the ballgame pretty early.
