That's probably a month or so off. In a couple of weeks, he'd probably be ready to pitch relief, but it's a matter of getting his strength back in the arm.

He is still a few weeks away from being able to pitch effectively. We felt that he needed to take the extra time and fully allow his arm to gain strength before he pitched. I also believe it wasn't fair to him to bring him back for half a season when he can come back and pitch two full seasons at full strength.

It's been busy. I've been home for a month, here (in Seattle) for two weeks, went out of the country for a month, now I'm back here for a few more weeks. Now I'm just getting ready for school to start. We're doing some conditioning. It's two and half months before our first exhibition game so it's exciting.

My hips are the best they've been since whenever this happened. I've only been working out for about three weeks. It's a matter of getting back into shape. I never take time off in the summer. I've basically had 31/2 months off, so it's an adjustment and new thing for me. It's going to take me a couple of weeks to get back.

It seems like about 15 years ago. The last couple years have been kind of rough. It's all behind me now. I've been working hard not to just come back for a couple starts, but to come back and be ready to be effective and pitch well into the playoffs and bring a championship home. I'm looking forward to getting back.

I know Drew and I know Xavier, and I know their work ethic, ... They know they have to be ready in a matter of a couple of weeks.

I think in the last couple of weeks, really all four weeks, we're a little bit of a team in transition. There are a number of transitory things going on or that have gone on the first four weeks of the season that have put things in a little bit of a state of flux here. They weren't what they were a month ago. Some of them aren't like they were two weeks ago. Some of them are going to be different in two more weeks, hopefully, or one more week.

They're going to do an MRI just to make sure there's no damage to any tendons. I'm not sure when the MRI will be done; probably in the next couple days. Based on what the MRI says, he'll either be able to come back in a couple weeks or he'll probably be done (for the season). Right now, we're looking at him being out a couple weeks. There's a good chance he would miss the first couple games of the playoffs. But we'll know more after the MRI is done.

If in the next couple of weeks he has to take time [off], and you can still get him back before the playoffs, then that's what you want to do. If he can get through this month and things are going well, and he can keep putting Band-Aids on it, then we'll be all right.

In Reno, prices have really jumped over the past month. Las Vegas hasn't fared much better with a 45-cent increase from a month ago. Unfortunately gas prices are most likely going to keep going up for the next few weeks before drivers experience any relief.

At this point, you have to. We win two here, it has to go back to Chicago, so yeah, I'm prepared to pitch on Sunday. I'll get ready for it and wait. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. That's my time to pitch. I'm ready for it. No problem.

I wondered after a year off how much time it would take to get back to top strength. I have to admit that training camp was pretty intense for me, but the last couple of weeks have been better.

There are a couple of races that weekend for us to look at, ... If we can get a prep in, I wouldn't want it to be any closer than two weeks before the Breeders' Cup. The 14th or the 15th would be an ideal scenario. It's just a matter of figuring out if he's ready to do it, and, if so, what race we want to go in.

He is doing well and, basically, he's ready to go back to work. But by the time he got game-ready, there might be a couple of games left. Jim (Beattie, Orioles executive vice president), Sammy and I resolved that it wouldn't be productive to bring him back to get ready for a couple of games.

If I understand correctly, it'll be a couple weeks before they even want him to pick up a ball. That's going to set him back there. We'll make sure he's ready to go.
