en I wanted to set the tone. I didn't want to be the guy who you walk guys to get to. That doesn't make you feel like a good hitter.

en The thing that can beat you in a situation like that is if you walk a bunch of guys. That's the last thing I wanted to do. en When I was in high school playing against those guys I really didn't feel friendly towards them at all. I tried to make myself think I hated Unionville at the time, and there was definitely a lot of trash talking. You run into those guys all the time. It's pretty important to have those bragging rights so you can walk with your head a little higher. But now that I'm out of school and you see those guys there's no hate there. I have a lot of respect for them.

en We walk away with our best start ever. We had that extra game on our legs and they didn't. Are we ecstatic with the tie? No. Of course we wanted to win, but it's another step in the right direction for what right now I feel is a very good team.

en I wanted to set a tone, I really wanted this game. They kept finding me in positions I could score and once they started doubling me really hard on the catch, there were other guys open. I didn't mind sharing the rock.

en They don't go through the grind other guys go through defensively, diving after balls, chasing balls. If you make an error, it might affect you but if you're a DH, you don't go through any of that. You just hit. As good a hitter as he is, and he's one of the best, no question, I could never vote for a guy who doesn't do play defense.

en You go through the first loop and you make a few adjustments so it's accommodating in some ways to players and getting their work in. Last year I wanted to set the tone with a hard workout and get guys' attention, and get guys working and to understand that's what we're here for.

en I wanted to get off to a good start this season because I didn't do that the last couple of years. I'm shorter in my swing and I think I'm a different hitter this year. We came out and beat some good teams and we really didn't hit that well as a team.
