en Around 2000 or so, we began to see more of this type of cruise, focused around bands and music that, for lack of a better term, is more contemporary music. It reflects the growing diversity of cruise passengers. We do have studies that show that cruise passengers are getting younger.

en Of course a fire on any ship and especially a cruise ship is a very scary proposition. The cruise lines go to incredible lengths to prevent this from happening. This is a very unfortunate and very isolated incident.

en But Garrett was a rock 'n' roller. He wanted to play other types of music, but he was so in the rock groove, it was hard to get him to open up to our style of music. We made it work, but we became a harder type of band.

en I'd heard of Rick for a number of years, ... He's kind of a pioneer in the music business, and he's produced so many different types of music and artists that you can't help but know about him. And you wonder, 'What the heck is this guy going to do next?' without realizing that you were what he was going to do next! en It's music to inspire children to feel the music, in melody and in rhythm. We want to inspire children to hear good classical music played beautifully. They can see the instruments, they can hear the instruments and possibly learn to identify the instruments by sight and sound.

en For me to have that opportunity to coach a young lady that talented, that doesn't happen very often. When you have a kid that's going to play in the Big Ten next year, with that comes high expectations for the team. She brought high intensity to a group that was already pretty intense, and lifted our play to where we were one of the better teams in state over last two years.

en I call this my church house trilogy. Souls' Chapel really was music from the Mississippi Delta, which to me is a church within itself. The Delta is the church of American Roots music. The Badlands is a cathedral without a top on it. And the Ryman has been called the Mother Church of Country Music, but to me it's the Mother Church of American Music. If you can think it up, it's been done there. In my mind, this is kind of a spiritual odyssey as much as anything else, and I had the settings of three churches to make it in.
