Brother Derek was everything you dream about in a horse. The way he looked, the way he moved, he just radiated with class. With certain horses, you can just tell, they have an air about them. We've trained some very good horses, and Brother Derek; well, he just toyed with the others.

In order to win the Santa Anita Derby, we would have really had to pressed Brother Derek hard. Brother Derek is a very nice horse. I think it was a good race for Point Determined. He could have been a little closer, but he finally kicked in at the end. He got beat 3 1/2 lengths by the best three-year-old, and it gives you something to work with. He finished real strong, and he's not one-dimensional, which would give him a little advantage if there is a real heavy pace in the Derby .

Him and his brother are real close. Since his brother's not here anymore and it's his first year at a bowl game, we're really going to have to put Derek on our arms and carry him along with us.

We're probably looking at a similar scenario, pace-wise, as the Kentucky Jockey Club.

He will gallop Friday morning and when he works on Monday, Alex Solis will be there for the work. Luis Ortega is coming for the first part and will stay through the work and then Francisco Alvarado will be here for the rest of the week.

If Derek wants to sign his contract extension, then everything would be great and we could just get on with things. The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. That has always been the case. I have always said that the best-case scenario for us and Derek is that he signs his contract extension and concentrates on his football and scoring goals until somebody that he is happy with comes in with the right money for him.

Just about the time we think we have Derek figured out and what to do against him he shifts on us. Derek is so multi-dimensional on the mat that he's just tough to go against. Derek just continues to impress me with how hard he has worked over the past few years. At times it seems like Ben can beat anybody in the world but him. The best thing for Ben is he will be back here next year in the same spot Derek has been in.

Alex is very athletic and has the ideal physique for a soccer player. He is very fast, has terrific agility and good strength and speed. His dad played soccer and there is a lot of athleticism in the family.
